Maria Hill sat in a dimly lit safe house, the blue glow of her laptop screen flickering against her sharp features. Since the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D., her life had become a never-ending game of cat and mouse. Governments had disavowed them. Former allies had turned their backs. And worst of all, Hydra still had its claws in everything.
Maria had made it her mission to hunt down the last remnants of the organization. The world might have thought Hydra was gone, but she knew better. These people didn't die—they hid, regrouped, and waited for the perfect moment to strike again.
That's why—when an untraceable message suddenly popped up on her secure terminal, her breath caught in her throat.
Her encryption was airtight. Unbreakable.
Or so she thought.
She sat up, instincts on high alert. It could be a trap. Hydra? No. Their style was more direct, more brutal. They didn't play subtle games—they played with bullets.
Maria's fingers hovered over the keyboard, prepared to shut the system down completely. But something stopped her. Curiosity? A gut feeling? Whatever it was, she hesitated. Then—she typed a response.
> FROM: Maria Hill
> SUBJECT: Who the hell are you?
The reply came instantly.
> TO: Maria Hill
> SUBJECT: Arjun Stark.
Maria blinked.
Stark?
She had heard the rumors. Tony Stark had a kid, but he had stayed out of the public eye for the most part. No media appearances, no flashy headlines—just the occasional whisper in intelligence circles.
And now, that same boy had hacked into her system like it was a child's toy.
Her jaw tightened. This was either extremely dangerous or insanely impressive. Possibly both.
She exhaled sharply and typed.
> FROM: Maria Hill
> SUBJECT: Prove it.
A moment passed. Then—the terminal flashed. A live video feed appeared on her screen.
A young man with sharp features, unruly dark hair, and a pair of piercing eyes leaned back in his chair, arms crossed over his chest.
Arjun Stark.
"Hey," he said casually. "I'd wave, but I'm pretty sure you're still reaching for a gun."
He stopped and came up with another humorous comment, "Not like you could fire it at me through the screen. "
Then he waved his hand.
Maria remained stone-faced. "You just breached one of the most secure communication lines in the world. You expect me to be impressed?"
Arjun smirked. "Well, I am."
She wasn't in the mood for humor. "What do you want?"
Arjun's smirk faded. His expression hardened as he leaned forward. "I need information on Hydra."
Maria studied him carefully. "Why?"
He hesitated—just for a fraction of a second. Then, his jaw tightened.
"They have two people I need to save."
Something in his voice made her pause. This wasn't about ego or revenge. It wasn't Tony's arrogance.
This was personal.
She leaned back, arms folded. "Even if I had intel—which I'm not saying I do—why the hell should I trust you?"
Arjun exhaled through his nose, tapping his fingers against the desk. "Because I can get results. And I am smart and a Stark. "
Maria frowned.
"I know Hydra is still alive. I know they're operating under new aliases, funding new experiments. And I refuse to let them run unchecked."
Maria studied him, searching for deception.
He was young, but there was something sharp in his gaze. Calculating. Driven.
More importantly—he wasn't Tony.
And she liked that.
Finally, she sighed. "Where do you want to meet?"
Maria chose the location—a neutral zone. An abandoned diner outside of New York, long forgotten and left to rot.
She arrived first. Scoped the area. No signs of an ambush.
Fifteen minutes later, the distant roar of an engine echoed through the quiet night. A black motorcycle pulled up outside, its rider dressed in a sleek leather jacket.
Arjun Stark dismounted, removed his helmet, and walked toward the entrance. No backup. No visible weapons.
Smart.
The bell above the door jingled as he stepped inside. The diner smelled of dust and old grease, but neither of them seemed to care.
Arjun slid into the booth across from her. "Nice spot."
Maria didn't waste time on pleasantries. She leaned forward, her gaze locked onto his. "Let's cut to the chase. You want Hydra intel. Why?"
Arjun's expression darkened. "Because they have Wanda and Pietro Maximoff."
Maria raised an eyebrow. "And you care because...?"
He exhaled slowly. "Because I made them a promise."
She narrowed her eyes. "And you think you can just storm into a Hydra base and walk out with them?"
"No," he admitted. "Not alone."
Maria leaned back, arms crossed. "You're asking me to risk my neck for two enhanced individuals who could be Hydra assets."
Arjun met her gaze steadily. "You of all people should know not everything is black and white."
Maria hated that he had a point.
She drummed her fingers against the table, thinking. Then—she reached into her jacket, pulled out a flash drive, and slid it across the table.
"That's all I've got on the Maximoff twins," she said. "It's not much. But it might lead somewhere."
Arjun picked it up carefully. "Thanks."
Maria studied him. "What's your plan?"
Arjun smirked. "I'll let you know when I have one."
Maria sighed. He was insane.
But she respected that.
As Arjun stood to leave, she called out, "Stark."
He turned.
Maria's expression was unreadable. "Don't get yourself killed."
Arjun grinned. "No promises."
And then—he was gone.
Maria sighed, because as per the orders of her chief Nick Fury, she had refrained from speaking about how those twins were now famous as they were super powered humans in Hydra's Sovokia base. But Director had asked her not to reveal certain things.
Back at Stark Tower, Arjun sat in front of his workstation, plugging the flash drive into his system. The AI responded instantly.
"Sir," J.A.R.V.I.S. said, "these documents contain coordinates of past Hydra facilities, including one in Sokovia."
Arjun's pulse quickened. "Pull up everything on Sokovia."
The holographic map flickered to life, illuminating his face with a ghostly glow. His eyes locked onto a single red marker—a remote Hydra outpost.
"This could be it," he muttered.
But he couldn't go in unprepared.
He turned to his workstation, scanning through blueprints, designs, calculations.
Project Mimic wasn't enough.
He needed something more.
A suit.
Not like Tony's.
Something different.
A combat-enhancing system—a suit embedded with microchips that could shift between different martial arts styles in real-time.
With every opponent he faced, the suit would learn. Adapt.
Arjun grinned.
"J.A.R.V.I.S.," he said. "Let's get to work."
Arjun stood outside Tony's office door.
For a moment—he hesitated.
If he walked in, Tony would try to stop him.
Would tell him he was being reckless. Would give him one of those long, disappointed speeches about how "being a Stark means being smarter than this."
And maybe—he was being reckless.
But Wanda and Pietro didn't have time.
He turned away.
And walked out of Stark Tower.
For the first time—
He was on his own.
