Seeing the perplexed look on Eleanor's face, Robert suddenly realized his tone might have been a bit harsh. He found his anger quite baffling.
"I only feel," he paused for a moment, then spoke again, his tone slightly softer, carrying a hint of cajoling, "since we are already married, you should tell me whenever you encounter any difficulties."
"Eleanor," his voice became even softer, "I am your husband, and I have said before, I will protect you in every way. That was not idle talk, but my promise."
Eleanor stared dumbfounded at the man before her, with a flicker in her eyes. She had always been independent, preferring to be alone, solving everything on her own, and facing all difficulties by herself. And now, Robert was telling her he wanted to protect her.
