Jacob had turned the entire Colorado Mountain upside down with his men, searching every nook and cranny. However, they had found no trace of Eleanor. Just as he was dejectedly heading downhill, Eleanor appeared before him, as though she had emerged from thin air.
It was like finding a village after a long, twisty journey.
Upon seeing Jacob’s worried expression, Eleanor offered a faint, guilty smile. “I’m fine.”
“Where have you been, my lady?” Jacob asked, his brow still furrowed.
“What’s wrong? I went to the top of the mountain, of course,” Eleanor said casually as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
She played the role of knowing nothing, calm and collected, but Jacob hesitated, unsure of how to respond. Eleanor probably didn’t realize that the Fourth Master had sent people to watch her—or that she had been regarded as missing.
“Is that so? I was just at the mountaintop and didn’t see you,” Jacob replied, feeling something was off.
