Eleanor's sharp hearing easily caught Jacob's words from afar. Her brows furrowed, and her expression turned cold in an instant. At that moment, Robert had already hung up the phone. His gaze shifted toward her, calm but searching, as if he was about to say something.
But Eleanor abruptly interrupted him. "You should go back first."
Her tone was faint yet decisive, laced with a quiet authority. "I want to stay with my uncle for a while."
The implication was clear—she wouldn’t be coming back anytime soon.
Robert's expression didn’t falter; his calm demeanor remained unchanged. Eleanor had expected him to protest, argue, or at least show some frustration. Yet, contrary to her expectations, Robert simply nodded.
“Alright,” he said, his voice gentle, but solemn.
His reaction surprised her. It was unlike the Robert she knew.
