Zenith's Little Helpers

It was another ordinary day in Buena Village. The afternoon sunlight shined down upon the flora that resided outside the house. As the birds chirped; while sitting on top of the stone wall fence that surrounds the entire residence. 

Today me, Roxy and Zenith are tending to the garden. Giving the flowers and herbs plenty of water by using our magic to cast the water ball spell. 

I also helped pull out the weeds from the ground and inspected the plants for any signs of pests. 

Whenever I see the bug on the leaves, I blow them away with wind magic, by casting a small puff of wind from the palm of my hand to send the bug flying in the air. Away from Zenith's precious garden. 

Zenith was always proud of me for helping her take care of the garden before Roxy became my magic tutor and during my annual scheduled day off from training with Master Roxy and Paul.

Whenever I do a good job, Zenith compliments me and pats my head. While I smile happily at her affectionate action. 

Meanwhile, Lilia was currently tending to the laundry outside. Hanging the clothes on top of the drying rack outside. And Paul was currently doing his patrol around the village. I think he'll be back around mid-afternoon or at sunset.

For those of you who don't know, I usually spend my day off helping Zenith, Lilia, and Roxy tending to the garden in the morning. Sometimes I even accompany Zenith to the clinic, where she works, or spend the entire morning and afternoon hanging out with Sylphy. 

Furthermore, I occasionally ask Paul to take me to the watchtower so we can have some quality father-and-son bonding time. 

Where Laws and Sylphy await us. But Laws and Paul insist that we stay and play inside or outside the watchtower when they start their patrol. 

Zenith and Rose wouldn't like the idea of their three-and-a-half-year-old children joining their husbands on their patrol around the village. Due to the likely chance that a few monsters or bandits suddenly attack. 

No doubt Paul and Laws wanted me and Sylphy to join them. So they can look cool and badass in front of us. 

"The weather has been lovely lately, no?" Zenith said out loud and responded to Roxy. "Little Roxy, please pick ten more of those."

"Sure," Roxy replied.

"Oh ZEEENIIITH!" The woman said, calling out to Zenith. Getting her undivided attention.

"Oh my, miss Milleret, come in the back way!" Zenith replied and then responded to Roxy and her son Rudeus. "Roxy and Rudy, when you finish watering the plants…Please put the basket of Vatirus flowers in the kitchen."

"Understood." 

"Okay, Mommy." 

Once Roxy harvested all the Vatirus flowers and moved out of the way. I cast a water ball spell and spread the water around the plants, flowers, and vegetables. 

"Thanks, I love these," Zenith said to Miss Milleret. For giving her a basket full of recently harvested bell peppers.

"Had a real bumper crop, so don't be shy now and eat them all, okay? Oh my…" Milleret replied and suddenly looked surprised to see a blue-haired demon girl alongside Zenith's son, in a small hamlet like this. 

"Good afternoon…" Roxy responded to Milleret while bowing her head to her.

"It's nice to see you again, Ms.Milleret," Rudeus said as he bowed his head alongside his master as they proceeded back to the kitchen.

"Zenith, tell me the truth…About that girl…" Milleret whispered to Zenith, so the bluenette demon girl couldn't hear her.

"Oh, Little Roxy?" Zenith replied and continued. "She's a really good girl. Rudy took a liking to her when they first met. But just between you and me, I think Rudy has a childish crush on her. While Roxy tends to act like a big sister and mentor when she interacts with Rudy. Though she's a bit reserved, so I wonder a little about that…"

"I-I see," Milleret said, displaying a worried facial expression as a tiny sweat droplet, dripped on her forehead. 

Roxy put the basket full of Vatirus flowers on the dining table. With Rudeus right behind her.

"That's enough. Thank you for helping me." Zenith said, extending her gratitude and continued. "By the way, look, I just got these. Mmm, smells great." Zenith said, display the basket with bell peppers inside.

Ugh…bell peppers🫑. Roxy thought, feeling completely disgusted from seeing the green fruit. 

(Q/A: It's true, bell pepper is actually a fruit. While most of us grow up thinking it was a vegetable. Look up online to find out for yourself.)

"Down the hatch, it goes, AHH!" Zenith said as she ate a piece of the bell pepper.

"Mommy really loves bell pepper, huh," Rudeus said with a delightful smile on his face.

"Oh dear. Please don't tell anyone I snacked on these." Zenith begged and then handed a bell pepper to Rudy and Roxy. "Here you both go, now we are all accomplices!"

A bell pepper. I don't like these things. And it's raw too. Not even sliced. Fat chance of me eating one. Roxy thought, feeling completely grossed out by the distasteful fruit.

Mmm…wait a second, maybe I could put the bell pepper back in the basket when Zenith isn't looking, Roxy thought.

Lilia opened the front door while holding a wooden washtub and responded to Zenith. "Ma'am. Weren't you supposed to go to the clinic today?" Lilia reminded Zenith.

"Oh! That's right. The herbs I was going to bring were…" Zenith said, getting ready to collect her herbs for the clinic.

"I have them ready for you. They're sitting on the outdoor table." Lilia replied to Zenith. 

"Thank you, Lilia." 

During Lilia and Zenith's conversation, Rudeus ate the entire bell pepper, while Roxy stealthy put her bell pepper back inside the basket. When no one was looking, except for Rudeus. But he simply pretended, since he already knew Roxy disliked bell peppers.

"Rudy? You wanna go to the clinic with mama today?" Zenith kindly asked her son. 

"I would love to come with you, Mommy."

"How about you, Roxy? Do you wanna come to the clinic with us too?"

"Eeep! Sure, I'll go with you!!"

"Thank you, both for accompanying me," Zenith said with a light smile as she grabbed the yellow sack full of herbs inside. "And Roxy, I'm sorry you helped me with things other than what you're being paid for."

"It's fine, I was just thinking I'd take a little walk outside." Roxy replied honestly to Zenith. 

"That so?"

Later, Zenith and Roxy proceeded to Buena Village's local clinic. With my mother taking the lead. Mmm, I think it is a good opportunity to ask my mother if we can hold hands together. She enjoys seeing me be fond of her. 

"Mommy, let's hold hands," Rudeus said, making Zenith smile as she obliged her son's request. "Sure Rudy, I would love to. Roxy, could you hold this sack for me please."

"Oh, sure Mrs.Zenith," Roxy replied and golfed on the sack of herbs for Zenith.

Roxy watched their interaction; noting how fond Rudy was towards Zenith. Watching mother and son holding hands like that, made Roxy remember old memories of her kindhearted mother and how they used to smile and hold hands when she was a child. 

Afterwards, Zenith greeted one of the local farmers, while holding my hand. 

"Good afternoon, Rouse. The weather is quite nice isn't it."

"Greetings, Mr.Rouse," Rudeus responded to the man, grabbing his undivided attention. 

"Hi there Rudeus, Uh Zenith is that, what I think it is?" Rouse replied, looking quite surprised to see a blue-haired demon girl, living in a sleepy little town like this.

Zenith grabbed Roxy by the shoulder to introduce her. "This little dear is Roxy. She's staying with us as Rudy's magic tutor. I think you might see her in the village every once in a while so please treat her well."

"I see. This is the girl everyone's talking about."

Rouse replied and continued. "You're so small. Aren't you a little young to be teaching?" 

"I am not small," Roxy said, showing a displeased facial expression, toward Rouse.

"Also I may look like this, but I'm much older than I appear to be," Roxy explained. 

"Hahaha, yeah right…Kids these days, always say that. Things are plentiful here, unlike where you demons live. So you eat your fill and grow up big and tall now. You too Rudy, yah gotta eat your veggies so you can be strong like your father."

"I see…Thank you." Roxy said, displaying an emotionless expression on her face.

"Thanks for the helpful advice, Mr.Rouse," Rudeus said, feeling dissatisfied by Mr.Rouse's remarks towards Roxy.

It would be a waste of time to explain Roxy's appearance and age. Rudy thought.

Eventually, we reached the clinic and Zenith delivered the herbs that were in the sack. While Roxy was browsing around the room that was filled with medicinal herbs. 

"Doctor, these are the medicinal herbs we've harvested," Zenith said, presenting the herbs to the doctor, who is also the owner of the clinic.

"Ohh, Zenith, your herbs are always so high quality." The doctor replied, complementing the herb Zenith collected. 

"I helped water them and protected the herbs from pests," Rudeus announced in a childlike manner in front of everyone. 

"Teeheehee🤭." Zenith giggled.

"Oh, did you bring me a patient?"

"This is little Roxy. She's an amazing magician I hired to teach my son magic." 

"Really, mmm…How's your healing magic?"

"As long as it's intermediate and below…"

"Ignore that rude old doctor, Ms.Roxy. I think it's pretty impressive that you mastered intermediate healing magic, and below, just like my mommy. It's no small feat." Rudeus said to Roxy, showering her with words of admiration.

"Thank you, Rudy. I'm glad you appreciate my strengths and talents." Roxy replied, showing her appreciation for her thoughtful student. 

"Hah, like you can talk. You're an herbalist too, but you let all the herbs you grow wilt." The young man said to the doctor. Who came to the clinic to pick up his medication from the doctor. 

"Enough, already!"

"Yeah, Yeah. See ya, I'll take these meds and be on my way."

"When you run out, don't be lazy, hurry back for more, you hear? Also, make sure you take them as directed."

"You just don't give up. Do you, old man?"

"Whoops, come to think of it, there's that old man at Eto's place. I haven't seen him since he came to pick up his meds a while back."

"Can you take these to the old lad and check on him while you're there Zenith?" 

"That's fine. Umm is it the usual medicine, right?"

Zenith said, grabbing the medication from out of the drawer.

"DOCTOR! My daughter's got a fever!"

"I kept an eye on her for three days. But it just won't go down!"

"Well that's worrisome, isn't it?" The doctor said as he gathered his suitcase full of medicine and medical tools. Then he responded to Zenith. 

"I'm going to head out on a house call…So please take care of things while I'm out."

"Oh, then I'll handle that delivery," Roxy said, offering her assistance to Zenith. "You sure? Then please deliver the medicine and return to the house when you're done." Zenith replied, handing the small bag of meds to Roxy. 

"I'll go with you Ms.Roxy, I know where the old man lives," Rudeus said, offering to accompany Roxy and give her directions.

"Thanks, Rudy. I appreciate it. Oh and don't worry Ms.Zenith I'll look after Rudy while you attend the clinic while the doctor is away." 

"Thanks, both of you are a big help," Zenith said, smiling with gratitude, towards her little helpers. As they departed to the old man's house.

"Goodbye Mommy, we'll be back soon," Rudeus said as he hugged his mother and exited the clinic alongside his Master Roxy.

"See you soon sweetheart and listen to Ms.Roxy," Zenith informed her son as he and Roxy waved goodbye to her. 

"Come on, Rudy, let's be on our way," Roxy said, reaching out her right hand to Rudy. So they can hold hands while walking to the old man's house. "Okay, Ms.Roxy," Rudeus responded and willingly grabbed her without hesitation. 

The old man that lives at Eto's place is across that bridge over by the watermill, a little way up the river, and then we go straight," Rudeus said to Roxy, pointing out the destination.

"Wow Rudy, you sure know your way around Buena Village," Roxy replied, complimenting her favorite student. 

"Thank you, Ms.Roxy, I know this village like the back of my hand," Rudeus answered, confidently.

As master and student were scrolling through the traveled pathway, hand-in-hand. A mud ball was suddenly thrown at Roxy, but she managed to dodge it easily.

While gripping Rudeus's hand, pulling him out of the way, with sheer instincts.

"Okay, who threw that?!" Roxy shouted to whoever threw that mud ball at her.

Three boys revealed themselves, standing on top of the muddy fields. One of them responded, pointing at Roxy with an angry look on his face.

The three children from Buena Village who bullied Sylphy when she was a child and harassed Roxy when she was tutoring me, all those years ago. No matter…I won't let them lay a finger on Master Roxy, this I swear, to the holy relic itself!

"We won't hand over this village to demons or anyone else!"

"We'll defend the Buena Village no matter what. So unhand that child you kidnapped, demon scum, if you know what's good for you!"

"Take this, you evil demon!"

"Rudy, stay behind me I'll protect you…" Roxy said, shoving me behind her and quickly chanted a magic spell. I decided to back her up too and responded. "I'll help too, Master!"

Come, fairy of winter! Stack the ice, and banish those who are evil! ICE WALL!

Suddenly a large thick layer of ice appeared in front of us. Protecting us from the launched mud balls that came towards us. 

"WHOA, Cool! It's magic!" 

"Don't be stupid! Nothing a demon does is cool!"

"Come on Rudy, let's get out of here." Roxy said, grabbing Rudy and proceeding towards the old man at Eto's place. 

"Okay, Master Roxy." Rudeus replied, walking alongside his Master.

"Hey you! Wait! Take thi-YEOW!"

"What the hell?!" I casted a mud ball through the use of melding magic and shot it at a kid who looked like the leader's lacky. 

"Hah, it got in my eyes!"

"Why the heck did you do that, for you idiot!"

"You were going to flip Ms.Roxy's skirt you pervert!" I said, giving him a vicious glare, similar to the Eris, while pointing my finger at him, with disgust. 

"Uhh, how did you know that!?"

"It's written all over your ugly face! I won't let any of you bullies lay a finger on Master Roxy! You gotta go through me first!" I shouted with ferocity in my voice, as I stared at him with an angry facial expression. 

"This ain't got nothing to do with you! So stay out of it!"

"What are you, an ally of the demons or something?"

"I'm no ally to the demons," I said. "I'm only protecting my mentor from you bullies." 

The other boys steeled themselves, drawing themselves up as if they were in the right. 

"Don't you try to act tough!" one of them Snapped.

"Hey, he's that one knight's kid!"

"You sure the son of a knight should be doing this sort of thing!?" 

"See, I knew it. That knight was on the demons' side!"

"Shut your filthy mouths, you're the bad guys, ganging up on a cute lady, three against one!"

Their faces screwed up in confusion.

"Hey, you're the one who's shouting now, you dumbass!" one of them blurted.

I grew tired of their pathetic nonsense. So I hurled multiple mudball at them. Making their clothes all dirty and soggy. I also launched mud on their hair too. This will surely make them turn tail and run away.

"You little brat, you got mud all over my shirt and hair!"

"Where the heck is he getting all that mud from?!"

"Forget it, this is boring anyway."

"Yeah, let's go."

"This isn't over demon-lover, we're gonna let everyone know the knight is harboring a demon."

"Hmph, good riddance." He murmured. 

"Thanks, for defending me Rudy, you were very brave out there. I'm sure your parents would be proud of you." Roxy said with a bright smile on her face. While giving head pats to her courageous student, as a sign of gratitude.

"Now, let's be on our way." Roxy said, grabbing Rudy's hand once again and proceeding to the old man's house. 

"Yes, Master Roxy." Rudeus answered, with a satisfied smile on his face.

Finally we arrived at Eto's house. Where the old man resides. He welcomed us to his residence. Then delivered the medication to him.

Roxy responded to the old man who awaited his medication. "Here you are, delivery from the clinic." 

"Thanks. I just couldn't find the time to come pick it up. And as for asking my son and daughter-in-law, well, you know how it is."

"By the way, you both got a spot of dirt on yah, both of you didn't fall along the way, did you?"

"It was just a few mud-balls…"

"It's nothing, honestly."

"It was a trio of troublemakers." I said, truthfully to the old man.

"Oh…Must've been my grandkids. I'm so sorry. My daughter-in-law spoils them with something silly…And whenever they leave the house, they get into all kinds of violent trouble. Can't say for sure whose side they take after."

"Uhhh…We should be going…" Roxy replied.

"That reminds me. I don't know if this'll work as an apology, but…" Old man said as he walked with his cane, towards the kitchen and returned back to us, handing over a basket full of green bell pepper. "Here you go, I grew 'em myself. They're really good."

Once we delivered the meds, me and Roxy returned home. Although she was down in the dumps about receiving those bell peppers.

"I'm home!" I called out.

"Welcome home, Rudy and Roxy." Zenith said, greeting us with a lively smile on her face.

"Ah I see, then just tell me what happened during dinner time okay. But for now, Lilia! ready a bath right away, please." Zenith announced to her red haired maid. 

"Understood, ma'am." Lilia replied, bowing her head to Zenith and grabbing the wooden washtub in the closet. 

"Why don't you and Rudy take a bath together before dinner, okay, little Roxy?" Zenith suggested to the blue-haired magician. 

"Okay, Miss Zenith. Also I'm sorry to make more work for you, miss Lilia." Roxy said, humbly apologized to the redhead maid.

"Oh, here are some bell peppers, the old man who lives at Eto's house, gave them to us as thanks." Roxy said, handing over the basket full of green bell peppers.

"Thank you, very much." Zenith replied.

"I'm home." Paul announced to everyone, while opening the front door of the house, welcoming everyone and giving Zenith a kiss😙 on the lips.

"Welcome back, dear. Do you want dinner now or a bath?" Zenith asked.

"I'D like my bath drawn first please."

"Rudy, Roxy. You think you could wait until Paul is done with his bath first please🙏?" Zenith said, pegging to Roxy to wait awhile until Paul is done bathing.

"Sure, I can wait, Ms.Zenith." Roxy answered. "I'm gonna rest in my room for a while. Come back to me when he's done okay."

"Alright little Roxy, have a nice nap, I promise to wake you up soon, that goes for you too Rudy, you look a little tired too." Zenith said with a lighthearted smile. 

Me and Roxy decided to rest in our separate bedroom at sunset. While Lilia was preparing dinner and Zenith getting the warm bath ready for Paul.

Once he was done with his bath, Lilia and Zenith had dinner served at the table. We joined them, since we were feeling a little hungry and didn't want to eat a cold meal after taking a bath.

Once we finished eating, Roxy grabbed her white nightgown, pair of undergarments, the wooden washtub, soap, a few towels, and two washcloths.

Then she took it to her bedroom so we could take a bath together. While I carried my own white colored pajamas.

Roxy let me do the honor, so I used some fire magic to heat the water to an appropriate temperature, not too hot, nor too cold. But hot enough to bathe in the steamy water and relax.

I undressed myself first head-to-toe until I was completely naked and Roxy did the same thing as well. She started taking off her knee socks, clothes and undergarments.
