The hallway was quiet as Kazuki stopped in front of Miyuki's door. He knocked lightly.
A faint voice came from inside. "Come in."
He stepped in to see Miyuki still in bed, bundled under a blanket. She looked better than last night, but the slight tiredness in her eyes was still there.
Kazuki frowned. "You're still half-dead."
Miyuki let out a soft chuckle. "Good morning to you too."
He walked over, setting down a small bag on her desk. "Brought you something."
She peeked inside and found a few simple snacks and a sports drink.
"You really didn't have to."
Kazuki shrugged. "Figured you'd need it."
Miyuki smiled, shifting slightly under her blanket. "You have a match today, don't you?"
"Yeah."
She thought for a moment, then smirked faintly. "Go easy on us."
Kazuki scoffed. "Not happening."
Miyuki chuckled, but then her voice softened. "You'll win, right?"
Kazuki met her gaze, his usual confidence unwavering. "Of course."
She studied him for a moment, then gave a small nod. "Then I'll come watch."
Kazuki raised an eyebrow. "You should rest."
"I will," she assured him. "But I'll be there."
A pause. Then, quietly, she added, "Good luck, Kazuki."
He didn't say anything back—just a small smirk before heading for the door.
"Get some sleep," he said before leaving.
With that, he walked toward the gym. It was time to win.
The gymnasium was filled with energy as the teams lined up at center court. The referee tossed the ball into the air—tip-off.
Seiryu secured possession first. Immediately, they moved with precise coordination, passing the ball crisply and setting screens to open up their shooters. Their captain, Tsubasa Hayashi, caught a pass near the arc and launched a smooth three-pointer.
Swish.
Kazuki narrowed his eyes. So they're starting aggressive.
Yami no Kiba wasted no time responding. Kazuki pushed the ball up the court, analyzing Seiryu's defensive setup. They were disciplined, keeping their shape and cutting off easy drives. Instead of forcing a shot, Kazuki kicked the ball to Kyouya, who drilled a mid-range jumper.
3 – 2.
Seiryu's strategy became clear early on—control the pace, use structured plays, and take high-percentage shots.
Meanwhile, Yami no Kiba relied on quick reads and adaptability.
Kazuki drove inside on the next possession, drawing a defender before flicking a no-look pass to Ryouma, who powered in for a layup.
Seiryu countered with methodical ball movement, finding Hasegawa, their center, in the post. He backed down his defender and scored with a soft hook shot.
Back and forth they went.
Seiryu thrived in structure, but Yami no Kiba was unpredictable, adjusting on the fly. Kazuki ran the offense like a chess match, shifting gears to counter Seiryu's defensive schemes.
By the end of the first quarter, the score was close—Seiryu 19, Yami no Kiba 17.
Kazuki adjusted his wristband as the second quarter began. Seiryu was still in control of the tempo, forcing Yami no Kiba to play at their pace.
But Kazuki wasn't one to play someone else's game for long.
The moment Seiryu's point guard got comfortable, Kazuki struck—a perfectly timed steal.
He exploded down the court on a fast break. One defender in front.
Kazuki hesitated for a split second—just enough for the defender to brace for a drive—then pulled up and nailed a smooth mid-range jumper.
Tie game. 21 – 21.
Seiryu answered quickly, running a perfectly executed backdoor cut that led to an easy layup.
But now, Kazuki was reading their patterns.
On the next possession, he baited their play, predicting the pass and intercepting it. A quick outlet to Kyouya, who sprinted up the wing—catch, shoot, splash.
Yami no Kiba took the lead for the first time. 24 – 23.
Seiryu started feeling the pressure. They still executed their plays well, but Yami no Kiba was no longer reacting—they were anticipating.
With seconds left in the first half, Kazuki held for the final shot. He dribbled near the arc, eyes locked on his defender. A quick crossover sent the opponent stumbling back just enough—Kazuki rose up, released, and drained a clean jumper as the buzzer sounded.
Halftime Score: Yami no Kiba 32 – Seiryu 31.
Kazuki exhaled, heading toward the bench.
The first half had been close.
But the real game was about to begin.
Second Half
The whistle blew, signaling the start of the second half. The scoreboard showed a narrow lead for Seiryu, but that was about to change. Yami no Kiba had spent the first half analyzing their opponent—now it was time to break them down.
Kazuki adjusted his wristband, exchanging a glance with Ryouma. No words were needed. They were ready.
Seiryu started strong, sticking to their structured plays. Their captain, Tsubasa Hayashi, nailed a smooth mid-range shot, keeping their team ahead.
Kazuki took control of the offense, signaling a shift in pace. He dribbled up the court, sharp eyes scanning the defense. The moment he saw a gap, he exploded forward, drawing two defenders before kicking the ball out to Kyouya, waiting beyond the arc.
Splash. A clean three-pointer.
"Nice shot," Kazuki muttered as they jogged back.
Seiryu answered quickly. Their big man, Hasegawa, muscled his way inside for a tough layup. But Yami no Kiba wasn't backing down.
Kazuki turned up the intensity, pressing their point guard. The moment his opponent hesitated, he lunged forward, stealing the ball cleanly. Without a second thought, he sprinted down the court on a fast break.
Seiryu scrambled to recover, but it was too late. Kazuki lobbed the ball toward the rim, and Ryouma soared in for an alley-oop dunk.
The crowd erupted.
Seiryu tried to push back, but their structured offense was starting to crack under pressure. The second-years from Yami no Kiba tightened their defense, cutting off passing lanes, forcing rushed shots. One miscalculated pass ended up in Kyouya's hands.
He pushed the pace immediately, faking a drive before stepping back and drilling another three.
Seiryu called a timeout. Momentum had shifted.
Coming back onto the court, Seiryu tried to regain control, but Yami no Kiba wasn't letting up.
Kazuki orchestrated the offense, changing speeds at will. One moment he was slow, calculating—the next, he was slicing through defenders with quick crossovers. Spotting an opening, he pulled up for a smooth mid-range jumper.
Swish.
Seiryu was getting desperate. They collapsed on Kazuki the next play, double-teaming him the moment he crossed half-court.
Big mistake.
With a quick flick, he passed to Ryouma, who bulldozed his way through defenders and finished a tough layup through contact. The whistle blew—and-one.
He stepped to the line, sank the free throw, and widened the gap further.
Seiryu tried to force their way back, but Yami no Kiba's defense had locked them down. Kazuki anticipated their plays, intercepting passes before they even developed.
Another steal. Another fast break.
This time, Kazuki didn't pass.
He weaved through defenders, took the hit mid-air, and finished a tough acrobatic layup. The crowd went wild.
Seiryu's frustration was starting to show. Their structured offense had been their biggest strength—but against Yami no Kiba's relentless speed and adaptability, it was crumbling.
Their shots stopped falling. Their defense started breaking down.
Kazuki capitalized. He manipulated the court, drawing defenders in before kicking it out to Kyouya in the corner.
Kyouya hesitated just enough for the defender to bite—then calmly pulled up.
Splash.
Seiryu rushed to inbound the ball, but Kazuki was already there, stripping it away and scoring an easy layup.
The game had become a showcase of dominance.
Ryouma grabbed an offensive rebound, slammed home a dunk.
Kyouya knocked down another three, barely breaking a sweat.
Kazuki ran the clock down, sizing up his defender. With a quick shift, he broke past him and sank the final shot of the game.
The buzzer sounded.
Yami no Kiba – Victory.
Kazuki exhaled, his eyes searching the stands.
Miyuki was there, smiling.
When their eyes met, she mouthed, Good job.
A smirk crossed his lips.
This was just the beginning.
