11. First Kill
Matteo had just come to terms of what the thing before him was, to overcome whoever fear came from killing another living thing he entirely ruled out that it was living entirely. To him he was the protagonist avatar and it was the hostile NPC he had to defeat, this was the easiest way he could face the beast hesitation.
As he and the beast got closer the booves of the beast tore through the ground making a loud sound with each step, Matteo's once disoriented steps now carries motives behind each move.
He could see the light reflecting off his blade in the grass, it would be hard but it was his only weapon with enough reach.
The girl with the mask shot out another arrow to slow down the beast but it bounced off its thick skull, she cursed under her breath. "Damn basic arrows."
The beast charged at Matteo as it crossed over his sword. The arrows bouncing off it's head were aimed in almost the same spot, it was a light message only someone with keen intuition could see.
As they two beast and man met in the middle Matteo dove down letting his boots slide on the thick green grass just as another arrow bounced off the same spot, the beast jerked it's head slightly allowing Mattoe a small blind spot.
He stabbed the dagger he had gotten from the underground library into its belly with as much force as he could. Not wanting to stay a second more he rolled away and leapt for his sword, just as his hand gripped the hilt of it the beast turned and charged at him.
[Stamina is low]
[Stamina 3/10]
"Off course my stamina is crappy." He thought as he gripped the hilt of the sword tighter as if it was his second life. The girl in the mask stopped firing arrows and waited to see the result of final clash.
The beast watched it's target standing still, filled with rage it squeaked again and charged even faster. Matteo repeated it to himself again that it was not a living thing and infact a hostile, his eyes glowed a faint red glow in recognition and strange words started to appred over the beast as it charged at him.
[Wild boar]
[Health -1]
[Health 7/10]
He ignored the other disruptions on the beast and held his breath as the beast reached him, in that moment of stillness new symbols started to appear all over the wild boar, circles huge and small, the there were about three the big one was yellow, the smaller one orange and the smallest by the side of the beast was red. It was only an instant before it vanished just as it had appeared but Matteo knew what it was instinctively.
The wild boar drove it's huge tusks at him only to hit thin air, Matteo had swerved out of the way with intent. The wild boar was still overwhelmed when Matteo struck the beast in the area that had once been red, right under one of its fore limbs, with all of his strength the blade cut through skin, then flesh then sliding through bone before cutting into some vital organs.
The force of the charge was still enough to make Matteo lose his balance and fall on his back. The wild boar staggered with a few steps before collapsing.
Matteo looked at the stains of red on his hand and started to breath heavily, he had won because he had help but next time he would not need to be in such a pathetic situation that he would need help ever again..
The screen appeared before him with his congratulatory message.
[You have slain a wild boar beast]
[You have received 20 exp for killing a basic tier beast]
"Only twenty experience points?" Matteo thought to himself, though it seemed little this was one experience he would never be forgetting any time soon.
But the system was not done with him yet.

[For being the first to awaken a unique talent you have been gifted 2000GC]

Matteo could not suppress his smile, he might not have claimed the first kill bonus but this was good too. The messages continued to sing to his ears.

[Stamina has been increased by 1]

[General information updated]
Though leveling up and getting all these notifications was a good thing Matteo tried not to get carried away by this little accomplished. It really was just a level and he was not level two meaning he was still just a little step about the bottom.
Matteo could see the girl in the mask extend an hand out to him, he took it and she pulled him to his feet. "You leveled up just from killing a basic beast? No, it's can't be, I must be overthinking it."
Matteo said nothing and only turned his eyes to the beast, he guessed than when leveling up some of his injuries had healed and she could tell. Or she was just that good at pointing it out.
Even with his stats increased by one, he could feel the boost in strength, agility and dexterity. Even his stamina. It felt like he was slightly renewed, slightly remade into something deadly.
He looked down at the wild boar and touched it.
[Unable to store in inventory]
Matteo knew how important beast meat was, as a source of food and as a source of income when sold.
The girl in the white mask seemed to read his mind and simply said. "It has to be cut I assume, good thing you have a dagger."
Matteo sighed and reached for the dagger still impaled in the beast's side. "Yeah, good thing indeed." He started to cut out strips of meat which his system alerted him was able to be stored for a certain amount of time.
The next thing he did was check the situation of his main weapon.
[Iron Sword]
[Class: Weapon]
[Rank: F (Basic)]
[Stats: Attack- +5, Dexterity- 43/50]
[Info: A sword crafted from basic steel]
"Curses." He hissed under his breath.
If his sword was to get battered and it's dexterity dropped too far down its effectiveness would drop and it would break eventually. And he still had a few places to check off the list.
