Chapter Fourteen: The Shadows' Awakening

As Selene and Asrael pressed farther into the ruins, the long, swaying shadows were created by the flickering torches along the stone walls. Their silence wasn't meaningless; it was laden with tension that neither of them wanted to express just yet.

With a gentle exhalation, Selene glanced at Asrael. After taking the elixir she had given him, he had altered. His perceptions were more acute, his motions more precise. He even had a new, passionate, unreadable way of looking at her.

He didn't answer at first, his fingers flexing as though testing something unseen. "You feel it too, don't you?"

She swallowed hard. "Yes. It's... stronger now."

He finally stopped and turned to face her. "It's more than just strength. I can sense you, even when I'm not looking. And when I reach out—" He lifted his hand slightly, and in an instant, she felt it. A pull, faint yet undeniable, like an invisible thread connecting them.

She gasped, stepping back instinctively. "What was that?"

His jaw tightened. "Proof that whatever you did to me, whatever bond we share... it's growing."

🔥 The Ruins Speak 🔥

A sudden gust of wind howled though the chamber, unearthly in its power. They were nearly in the black as the torches wavered wildly before settling again. Selene gripped the dagger at her belt more tightly.

Something's coming...

Then, barely perceptible, a murmur slithered along the hallway. Somehow, they both understood a language they had never heard before.

Do you hear that? "Over the unsettling silence, Selene's voice could hardly be heard as she muttered.

Asrael face grew serious. "It's calling us".

After exchanging glances, they proceeded, attracted to the direction of the voice. Its carvings pulsed slightly with an uncanny silver radiance as the route led to the arched doorway. Selene paused, all of her instincts telling her to run away

Asrael, however, stepped forward, his fingers grazing the cold stone. The moment he touched it, the glow intensified, and the whispers became a deafening chorus.

🔥 The Bond Strengthens 🔥

Selene took hold of his wrist "Asrael, stop"

His breathing was labored as he stumbled ." it's.....inside my head."

Her chest ached with fear. She sensed him drifting away, their energy pulsing, becoming nearly intolerable. She instinctively closed her eyes and reached out for the unseen thread that connected them.

"Come backed to me, Asrael" she begged .

He was grounded when her voice broke though the confusion. He drew his hand away from the stone with a long gasp. The murmuring quieted down as the illumination faded.

For a long moment, neither of them spoke.

Finally, Asrael turned to her, his voice hoarse. "We need to understand this, Selene. Whatever is happening to me... to us... it's only getting stronger."

Selene nodded, fear and determination warring inside her. They had stumbled into something far greater than they had imagined. And whatever lay ahead—they would face it together.
