Alex picked up the glass of whiskey from the table and downed it in one gulp.
"Cough... cough … How can something that costs thousands of dollar taste so bad?" After grumbling and complaining, Alex walked toward the large bed in the room. He lifted the bedsheet and bent down, calling out: "Alright, you can come out now."
A delicate, pale arm extended from beneath the bed. Earlier, Alex had swiftly cut the ropes binding Emily, setting her free. However, since Eric had already arrived, there wasn't any time for her escape, so Alex had hidden her inside the bed.
Emily crawled out from inside the bed, dusting off the dirt on her light blue dress. But her gaze remained fixed on Alex—wary but also filled with curiosity!
"Why did you save me?" Her voice was cold, with a distant tone, as if she didn't even feel grateful for Alex's help.
Of course, Alex wasn't surprised by this reaction. After all, in the novel, the original female protagonist Emily had this very kind of personality. It was only after the original male lead's persistent efforts over time that she became the leader of his harem.
Right now, though, the original male lead was probably still just the head of her family's security team, right?
Although Emily had a perfect, slender figure, the space under the bed was too small, and there was a noticeable tear on the side of her skirt, revealing a flash of pale skin.
Alex couldn't help but notice her beauty which didn't fade even in this condition.
Though reluctant but he still took off his suit jacket, stepped forward, and wrapped it around Emily's waist.
If it was before this then after seeing Alex's actions, Emily would have backed away right there, but now she didn't. Instead, she kept staring straight at him.
While fastening the jacket, Alex said: "I didn't save you; I did it to save myself."
"Save yourself?" Emily was completely baffled by Alex's response. But she still added: "Regardless, I should still thank you.
Eric dared to kidnap me! I'll make sure he pays for this!"
"Heh, how foolish."
"Huh? What … what did you just say?"
Emily was taken aback. Foolish?
That term… No one had ever dared to call her that! She was the only heiress of the Smith Group, after all, and the sole future successor to the Smith Group. From a young age, she was considered as a genius but now hearing someone calling her foolish, she lost it all.
Before she could respond further, Alex continued: "How exactly are you going to make him pay? By reporting it to the police?"
Hearing this, Emily instinctively nodded, even though she didn't quite understand why.
"You really are a foolish girl, huh?"
"I'm not foolish!!" Emily found herself refuting this stranger's words, not even sure why she felt the need to argue. Her voice even carried a hint of coquettishness—a tone entirely out of character for an ice-cold heroine like her!
Alex found her sudden change amusing but didn't linger and continued: "You think you're not foolish? Eric has Mr. Rayden backing him. Their family's wealth far surpasses your Smith Group's. Do you really think reporting him to the police would harm him?"
Emily froze upon hearing these words.
He's right! The family is more powerful than our Smith Group! If I report it, then the Eric's family will probably just find some scapegoat! And worse, Eric might retaliate even more fiercely in the future!
Emily wasn't truly foolish—she understood immediately. Of course, she could have figured it out on her own, but she was still furious at the moment.
Her curiosity about Alex deepened as she glanced at him, thinking to herself: Is he really just a low-level lackey under Mr. Rayden? How could he see things so clearly?
As she pondered this, the door to the room was suddenly flung open again.
"Everyone inside, don't move! Hands up!"
Three uniformed officers burst in, aiming their guns directly at Alex.
Alex sighed and threw up his hands in exasperation: "Here we go again!"
A line from an old movie flashed through his mind: "I swear, I'll never let anyone hold my life at gunpoint again!"
Alex didn't have such lofty ambitions. At that moment, a young man in his twenties with an above average face and wearing a security uniform rushed in behind the officers. Pointing at Alex, he shouted: "Arrest him! He kidnapped the Smith family's eldest daughter!"
Then, with a quick step, he ran over to Emily, who was still standing by the bed, wrapped in Alex's jacket. His face filled with concern, he asked: "Emily, are you alright?"
Alex looked at him.
Isn't this guy the original male lead from the novel?
Apparently, he had been training in the mountains and forests for years, so his combat skills were off the charts! He was supposed to be Mu Qingqing's bodyguard arranged by her father, but since she didn't want him around, he ended up working as the head of her security team.
Alex smirked. On his first day after transmigrating, he had already met the original male lead, the original female lead, and the main villain? Interesting!
Meanwhile, the officers had already pulled out their handcuffs and were preparing to arrest Alex.
But Emily suddenly spoke up: "What are you doing? He didn't kidnap me!"
