Within a few minutes, Alonso's food was served. He opened his mouth wide, smiled, and felt very excited because he had never seen a meal as nice as today before.
He typically eats the one his mother prepared, but this time it was especially significant. Uncle Pedro called out, "Alonso!, would you like some refreshing drink?" Alonso quickly responded, "Yes, yes! Uncle."
The waiter brought Alonso a chilled refreshing cocktail. After he was served, Alonso couldn't say a word of prayer, and then he started eating.
He was jubilating in his head while enjoying the dish. Uncle Pedro tried calling Alonso's cell phone, but he was unable to reach her. He asked Alonso why he had not found his mom at home. Alonso replied, "I haven't seen Mama since returning from training."
"Training? What do you mean by training, Alonso?" Uncle Pedro didn't know that Alonso was part of his school team. "I'm now part of my school team, so I have to go for training every day. We have a tough match ahead of us next week, and you know next week is also my birthday, right?"
"Oh yeah, Alonso. I'll get you a birthday present, okay?" "Sure thing, Uncle," Alonso replied, savoring his meal. His uncle attempted to contact Alonso's mom but was unsuccessful. Soon enough, a crowd began to form at the restaurant.
Alonso didn't know what was happening. He saw people arguing about which team would win the match today. It was a match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. That was the Champions League.
Alonso had no idea about it. All he could see were people busily quarreling. He was happy because it was his first time watching a football match with such an audience. After clearing his meal, he called out to the waiter, and the waiter came and cleared the empty dishes.
He then walked into the crowd to watch the match too. "Hey kid, go home. Your mum must be looking for you," said a strange voice from one of the people in the crowd. Everybody turned to see who the man was referring to. It was Alonso.
They called out Uncle Pedro to come see who was in the crowd, thinking he might be missing and his parents would be looking for him. When Uncle Pedro popped out of the crowd, he exclaimed, "Oh no, that's my child.
He's a fan of football and very talented too. Let him have an experience with you." The crowd was surprised by how tiny Alonso was, considering Uncle Pedro's claim about him being talented. They didn't believe him, but they allowed him to stay.
Back then, Javi and his friends were having a discussion, and Javi told them how Alonso reacted today. "I can't engage in this again, Javi," one of the boys said and left, leaving three of them.
They all started to leave because they thought Alonso was now something else. Javi got angry to see all his friends resign.
Coach Herrera was home planning how to win the match because he knew it would be very tough. He didn't know whether to include Alonso in the game because the opponents were much more mature and could injure him.
The match was next Friday between Bilbao Central School and Gustavo Academy, with Gustavo Academy being the defending champions of the inter-school football game.
The arguments persisted among the teenagers while the older folks settled into their seats, ready to enjoy the kickoff. Alonso couldn't help but glance around, as he had never encountered anything quite like this before.
He couldn't stop looking around because he had never had such an experience. The game was about to begin, and the two teams were warming up to prepare for kickoff. After that, Alonso saw the coaches giving instructions and speeches to the teams.
He then remembered when he was about to play the match; it was the same thing that Coach Herrera did. The referees arrived, and they inspected the pitch to ensure safety.
Now both teams were back on the pitch again and welcomed by their fans. Alonso could see the players walking with children of his age and wondered if the kids were the children of the players.
The teams lined up to sing their anthems, and each team had a flag in front of them. Real Madrid started singing their anthem, and the fans sang along, clapping their hands when it ended.
He had almost forgotten the reason he was at his uncle's place. Atletico Madrid then began their anthem, and their fans also sang along and applauded when it concluded.
The kids quickly left the pitch, and the referees of both teams called the referee to toss a coin. Alonso asked a nearby teenager why the coin was tossed by the referee. The teenager explained that the coin is tossed to determine who will start the game.
Both captains chose their side of the coin, and the referee tossed i tresulting in Real Madrid starting the match. Lucas Vasquez was the captain of Real Madrid, and he passed the ball as soon as he heard the whistle.
The game had started, and the Real Madrid fans were clapping their hands because of how the players were possessing their opponents. It was the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and whoever loses will be out of the league.
Alonso heard his name and it was Uncle Pedro. ''Time to go home Alonso''. Alonso was surprised and asked him,'' have you found mama and Lucia?''.
''No Alonso. Let's go to my house''.
