That evening was the first time in a decade that Uncle Pedro had eaten Mama's food. After she got married to Mr. Emilio, he had never eaten her food again. So, this was a privilege for him to enjoy his sister's meal once more.
Mama gently served him, and Uncle Pedro loved the aroma of the food. He began to eat his meal. Not long after, Alonso entered the apartment without knocking.
When he walked in and saw his family, he stood there panting, overwhelmed with excitement to see everyone together again. He rushed to his dad and hugged him, asking how he was feeling and what had caused his illness.
But his dad told him not to worry anymore. Papa asked him how training session had gone that day.
Alonso shed tears and said it had been a bad day for him. He rolled his shoulders, trying to ease the tension within him.
"Papa, do you believe I missed all the shots today at training session? Coach Herrera was not happy with my performance at all. He said I am not ready for the match against Gustavo Academy."
"Don't give up, my boy. I know you can make it. Don't forget your dad is proud of you."
Uncle Pedro called to Alonso, "Hey boy, come and see what I have for you."
He pulled out the brand-new jersey he had bought for him as a birthday present. Alonso jumped for joy when he saw the jersey—it was an FC Barcelona jersey.
He fell in love with it and thanked Uncle Pedro for such a wonderful gift.football clips. He pulled out his phone and launched the Youtube app. He started to watch the clips and came across the match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
He started to watch the highlights and fell asleep with the phone still in his hand.
The next morning, Alonso was the first to wake up. He quickly went to the bathroom, brushed his teeth, and took his bath. It was his birthday, and Alonso was now 10 years older.
His mom was the next to wake up. She saw Alonso dressed and ready for school because it was the last training session before the match against Gustavo Academy.
His mom wished him a happy birthday and blessed him. Alonso left the apartment before Lucia and Papa woke up.
When he reached school, he saw his friends, including Javi, heading to the locker room.
He hurried to catch up with them. When he got closer, Miguel wished him a happy birthday. As they entered the locker room, the others stood up to wish Alonso a happy birthday. He was overjoyed by what his team had done for him.
They all got dressed and headed to the pitch. When Coach Herrera arrived, he was shocked to see the new energy the team had gained. They were training on their own, and he felt very happy to see that.
Today, Javi and Alonso were performing excellently. The team had developed strong teamwork.
Coach Herrera observed them well and gave instructions. They divided themselves into two sections, and Alonso and Javi were on the same team. Coach Herrera urged them to play as if it were the match against Gustavo Academy.
Both sides performed very well, and it was hard to score a goal. Alonso had the ball on his side and controlled it nicely, delivering a perfect assist to Javi, who scored an excellent goal. Coach Herrera shouted, "That's what I want to see!"
The team was happy because their coach was excited about their performance. By the end of the training, Alonso and Javi were crowned the best players on the team. They hugged each other and remarked to themselves that they had a long way to go.
As always, they went back to the locker room to wait for Coach Herrera. Within a few minutes, he came in to speak to them. He praised them for their performance and told them he wanted them to defend their team tomorrow.
He brought out the list of the starting eleven. Everyone thought Alonso would be part of it, but unfortunately, he wasn't. Javi was the team's captain. Alonso felt quite down. He believed he was the top player on the team and had secured a victory against San Ignacio.
He didn't understand why he was left out. His teammates were surprised by Coach Herrera's decision.
