Chapter 10

The colleague continued chattering, "Doctor Smith is so much better than Doctor Stratton, and he's not indecisive like Doctor Stratton, who can't seem to choose between his girlfriend and his protégé."

As if on cue, Jack appeared at the office door, his face as dark as thunder.

The colleague quickly excused themselves and scurried out.

I felt somewhat awkward, burying my head in the breakfast Dr. Smith had sent over.

I wasn't sure how much he'd heard, but talking behind someone's back was never right.

After a while, just when I thought Jack had left, I heard his voice, "Olivia, this whole day has just been a game. You know you're the only one I truly love. You have to believe that all these years of our relationship mean something."

I swallowed the mouthful of breakfast I was eating. I didn't feel particularly upset or moved, just found it somewhat laughable.
