Ginny buried her head low, wishing the ground would open up and swallow her whole. Fortunately, Zephyr didn't comment on her outburst. Instead, he briefly went over the day's training schedule, preparing to dismiss the group.
Just then, a Marine sailor rushed in anxiously. It was Rear Admiral Babs, the officer who had escorted Carl back to Marine Headquarters. His voice was urgent as he shouted,
"Admiral Zephyr! Vice Admiral Garp has encountered the Whitebeard Pirates at sea! A battle has already begun! Fleet Admiral Kong orders you to depart immediately to support him!"
*"Nani?!"*
Zephyr's eyes widened. He turned to Babs, his voice sharp.
"What is Garp doing out there? Where's Sengoku?"
Babs barely had time to catch his breath before answering,
"Vice Admiral Garp was returning to East Blue to visit his family. His ship isn't heavily manned. Sengoku and Vice Admiral Tsuru are both away on missions, and Fleet Admiral Kong couldn't reach you. He sent me to find you!"
Zephyr's expression darkened.
He knew all too well how powerful the Whitebeard Pirates had become. Since Rocks' death, they had rapidly expanded, attracting more and more strong members, showing signs of dominating the seas.
And then there was Whitebeard himself.
Edward Newgate, formerly of the Rocks Pirates, had always been a monstrous force. Back then, even on Rocks' crew, he had been one of the strongest combatants. If Garp had encountered Whitebeard in full force, he was in serious trouble.
Zephyr clenched his fists. There was no time to hesitate.
"Are the warships ready?" he asked.
"Fleet Admiral Kong has made arrangements. The fleet is assembled and waiting at the port!" Babs reported.
Zephyr nodded but remained tense.
Even with a full fleet, manpower was an issue. Rocks' death hadn't weakened piracy—it had only splintered it into powerful factions, making them even harder to control. The Navy was stretched thin, and Zephyr had no illusions about the risks.
*I can retrieve Garp, but how many lives will be lost in the process?*
The Whitebeard Pirates were not like the Roger Pirates. Their numbers were vast. In a full-scale battle, it would be impossible to protect the lower-ranked Marines.
Behind him, the recruits listened in anxious silence. Many idolized Garp and wished they could help. But they knew the reality—their current strength was barely above that of cannon fodder.
Among them, Gion clenched her fists. Because of Tsuru, she had always been close to Garp. She wanted to volunteer, but before she could speak, someone else did.
"Teacher Zephyr, let me go with you."
Zephyr turned.
Carl had stepped forward, along with Akainu and Kuma.
After a moment, Kizaru lazily followed behind them.
Lucia, without hesitation, became the first among the female recruits to step forward, just ahead of Ginny and Gion.
The seven of them represented the strongest among this generation of trainees.
A proud smile appeared on Zephyr's face, but he shook his head.
"No. You are the future of the Navy. Our opponents this time are not ordinary pirates. I can't take you with me."
Akainu's fists ignited, smoke billowing from his shoulders. His voice was firm.
"Teacher Zephyr, I am a Marine. For the sake of justice, please let me go!"
Carl wasn't as emotional. He didn't have any particular attachment to Garp, but this was a rare opportunity—a real battlefield where he could test himself. If he passed on this, who knew when another chance would come?
He spoke calmly.
"Teacher Zephyr, a large-scale battle like this is perfect for us three Logia users to contribute. And we have Kuma here. I don't think I need to explain his ability."
Zephyr hesitated. Carl had a point.
Logia Devil Fruit users were game-changers in battle. That was why the Navy put such high value on them.
Ginny and Gion were also top-tier among the recruits, both having mastered Armament Haki. Lucia, with her Mythical Zoan abilities, was another major asset.
And then there was Kuma.
The more Zephyr thought about it, the more reasonable it seemed. If anything went wrong, Kuma's Paw-Paw Fruit could act as an escape plan.
After a brief pause, Zephyr made his decision.
"Fine. You seven, come with me to the port!"
Carl grinned.
"Teacher Zephyr, you're still too impatient. Have you forgotten? We have Kuma."
Zephyr blinked. Then, realization dawned.
"Right! Kuma, send us there immediately!"
Kuma wasted no time. With a wave of his massive palm, the air distorted.
*Pop!*
One by one, Carl, Akainu, Kizaru, Lucia, Ginny, Gion, and Zephyr vanished.
Once they were gone, Kuma sent himself as well.
### **Meanwhile, in the East Blue—**
At the border of East Blue and the Calm Belt, the sounds of battle filled the night.
Several pirate ships surrounded a lone Marine warship, bombarding it with relentless cannon fire.
Onboard the warship, Marine officers desperately defended against the incoming assault, trying to keep their ship afloat.
But it was a losing battle.
A large number of Whitebeard Pirates had already boarded, engaging the Marines in fierce combat.
And Garp?
Garp had left his ship behind. Alone, he had stormed the *Moby Dick*, Whitebeard's flagship.
Standing before him, Whitebeard grinned, his massive frame towering over the Marine Vice Admiral. His large white fangs gleamed in the moonlight.
*"Gurarara! Garp, you're still as reckless as ever. Did you really think attacking my Whitebeard Pirates alone was a good idea?"*
Garp's Marine uniform was already in tatters. He wiped his nose with his thumb, unfazed.
"Does it matter? Whitebeard, before I take down Roger, I'll throw you in jail first!"
Whitebeard let out another deep laugh.
*"You still don't get it, do you? You think you can capture me? Today, I'll show you just how strong my Whitebeard Pirates are!"*
Next to Whitebeard, a samurai with two swords stepped forward, eyes burning with fighting spirit.
"Enough talk! Let me handle him!"
Whitebeard, however, stopped him with a raised hand.
"Oden, stand down. You're not ready to fight him yet."
Oden hesitated but obeyed, stepping back.
Whitebeard turned his gaze upward, toward the rising moon. His grin widened.
*"It's getting late. Let's wrap this up. I still have a party to attend with my sons—gurararara!"*
