Chapter 7: The Journey Begins
As the old boat glided smoothly across the water, Maya felt a sense of wonder and awe. The stars twinkled above her like diamonds, and the river seemed to stretch out before her like a vast, dark canvas.
The mysterious woman stood at the helm of the boat, her eyes fixed on some point in the distance. Maya couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity about this woman, who seemed to know so much about the river and its secrets.
"Who are you?" Maya asked, breaking the silence.
The woman turned to her, a small smile playing on her lips. "I am someone who has been waiting for you," she said. "Someone who has been watching you from the shadows."
Maya felt a shiver run down her spine as the woman spoke. There was something about her words that seemed...off.
"What do you mean?" Maya asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
"I mean that you have been chosen," the woman replied. "Chosen to fulfill an important task, one that requires great courage and determination."
Maya felt a surge of excitement mixed with fear. What task could this woman possibly have in mind for her?
"What task?" Maya asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
The woman smiled again, her eyes glinting with a fierce, otherworldly light. "You will see," she said. "In time, you will see."
As the boat continued on its journey, Maya couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. What lay ahead, and what would she be required to do?
The woman seemed to sense her unease, and reached out to place a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Do not worry," she said. "You are ready for this. You have been preparing for it your whole life."
Maya felt a surge of determination at the woman's words. She was ready for whatever lay ahead, no matter how challenging or difficult it might be.
As the boat rounded a bend in the river, Maya caught sight of a vast, dark shape looming in the distance. It was a waterfall, its misty veil rising high into the air like a ghostly apparition.
The woman smiled again, her eyes glinting with excitement. "We are almost there," she said. "Almost at the heart of the river."
Maya felt a sense of wonder and awe as she gazed out at the waterfall. What lay beyond it, and what secrets would it reveal to her?
As the boat drew closer to the waterfall, Maya felt a sense of trepidation mixed with excitement. She was about to embark on a journey that would change her life forever.
