A moment ago, it looked like she didn't seem to be interested in what was going on around her and even her voice when she asked him what he wanted sounded lazy and devoid of any form of energy.
However, when she started talking about the match and the reason why she was there, it was like she transformed into another person, her voice like a sudden firework explosion, bursting with colour and energy.
"I see, so you're actually here to watch the match," Adrian uttered, an awkward smile on his face
"What else am I supposed to be doing here?" She responded, her voice reverting to its dull nature.
'Weird.'
She tapped the screen of her tablets a couple more times before dropping it on her lap face down.
With the tablet now out of her field of vision she turned to him.
Adrian never had a proper chance to get a good look at her; he wondered what her face looked like with that voice, and now he could see it.
Her face was a calm, oval shape with high cheekbones and a small nose. Her deep brown eyes were fringed with thick lashes, but her expression was usually neutral, giving away little. Her long, black hair was tied back in a neat ponytail, adding to her reserved and polished demeanour.
Among everything else, Adrian found himself more drawn to her eyes.
They were the colour of worn earth. They seemed to hold a sense of perpetual detachment, a sense of observing the world around her without ever truly being a part of it.
As she gazed at him, her eyes seemed to bore through his without ever truly seeing him. Even when she blinked, it was with a slow, languid motion, as if even the simplest actions required too much effort.
'Even her face and expressions match her dull voice, but when she….'
With her gaze now on him, she carefully scanned him from head to toe before returning her gaze to his face.
"You're not a student here are you?" She asked.
That was a very reasonable deduction as everyone around them was either wearing the school uniform or a sports outfit.
He, on the other hand, was in a casual red T-shirt with a pair of black pants.
"Well, not yet." He shook his head.
"Are you here to see a relative then?"
"No," He shook his head once again.
"I'm starting to wonder how you got in then."
There was clearly suspicion in her voice as she turned away from him.
"Don't misunderstand the situation, I said I wasn't a student yet, but I will be by next term. The security personnel let me in as I wanted to look around." He hurriedly explained.
"Oh, I see." She nodded. "So, you'll be joining the new Academic session. Which grade?"
"Well, I just completed my second year of senior high school at my other school, so the third year, I guess." He shrugged.
"Third year? Then I suppose we'll be classmates then."
"Mmm." Adrian nodded.
"Gooooaaaallll!!"
That sudden scream seemed to have startled Adrian a bit, causing him to turn around to see that the yellow team were currently celebrating on the pitch as they happened to have scored a goal.
"I suppose we're winning this one."
Adrian turned to her at that moment to see that she had a very subtle but proud smile on her face.
'I suppose she'll only show a bit of normal expression when it comes to football. However, whether or not it's actually about the game or somebody playing it is yet to be seen.'
Just like she said, the match soon came to an end, with a scoreline of two goals to one.
The graduating students just couldn't get back from that deficit with very little time left leaving their juniors to go home with the victory.
The match was now over, and the students around the pitch slowly began to disperse as they had other matters to deal with.
Adrian watched closely as he was eager to see all the students leave so that he could closely inspect the pitch.
"Hey, do you…."
He turned to the girl behind him at that moment to ask something, only to see her grab the bottle of water by her side before quickly getting up on her feet.
"Here, have some water." She said before throwing the water past him.
Adrian quickly followed the bottle of water to see that it was now in the possession of a boy but not just any boy. Eric Norton was the heartthrob of the school.
He had a messy mop of blonde hair and bright blue eyes that sparkled with warmth. His features were finely chiselled, with high cheekbones and a small nose, giving him a boyish charm that was hard to ignore.
"Thanks, Noelle." He smiled as he walked up to her.
Adrian had forgotten to ask her name, but now he was hearing it from another person, and for some reason, he didn't feel good about it.
There was also something else that he didn't feel good about. That was the fact that Noelle was smiling quite visibly now as Eric opened the bottle of water to consume the content.
"I didn't know she was capable of smiling like that."
'I suppose it wasn't about the game but her boyfriend.' He sighed inwardly.
He came to that conclusion just after seeing the way she was smiling; there was also the fact that his combination of black sports jacket and track pants perfectly complemented hers, which were white, given that they were of the same design and brand.
"You didn't seem to do as badly as you said you would," Noelle said, sticking both of her hands into her pockets.
"Ehhh, I didn't face that many shots."
Listening to their conversation, Adrian couldn't help but huff as he turned away from them.
That was enough to get Eric's reaction as he was looking at him now.
"Is he your friend?" He asked, turning his gaze back to Noelle.
"I don't know if he qualifies as a friend but we were talking before the match came to an end. He's our new classmate for the next academic session." She articulated.
"Oh….then I…."
"Eric!"
That voice suddenly cut him off as the source of the voice ran toward him, but before he could get to him, he tripped and crashed down right in front of Adrian.
"Huh?" Adrian grasped.
"Oww." The boy groaned.
"Are you okay?" A concerned Adrian asked as he offered him a hand up.
"I told you to stop running carelessly, Oscar," Eric commented.
"Yeah yeah, I hear you."
After getting pulled up by Adrian, Oscar proceeded to clean the dirt off his body.
He had black curly hair and a pair of innocent-looking brown eyes. He was wearing a yellow kit so Adrian could tell he was another one of his future classmates.
"But Eric, you're really something; I was planning on how we were going to celebrate our win over the evil lords today, and you've run off to see Noelle. You're truly hopeless."
After saying that, he turned to Adrian to thank him again for helping him up, and at that moment a sharp gasp escaped from his lips.
"You can't be serious." He uttered as he shook his head, a stunned expression on his face.
"What's wrong?" Eric asked, walking closer to the area as Noelle followed from behind.
"Hey, you two." He said, turning to both of them.
'What is going on now?' Adrian pondered, a confused expression on his face.
"Remember I told you that on our trip to England, we faced a team and lost eight goals to nothing?" Oscar asked.
"Yes." Noelle nodded.
"And among those eight goals, one person scored six goals himself."
"Yes." Eric responded.
"Well, that's the culprit right there!" He declared, pointing at Adrian.
"Huh?"
"Him?" Noelle said, walking closer to him.
"Yes." Oscar nodded. "There's no way I can get it wrong, I saw his face in my nightmares a few nights after that match." He asserted.
"Are you sure you're not making a mistake?" Eric asked, moving closer to Oscar. "I mean, that's all the way in England; there's no way he would be here and in our school right now."
While they were busy trying to confirm what happened, Adrian was carefully searching his memory.
"He's not wrong, that's definitely him." A voice suddenly spoke from behind Oscar.
"Savi." Oscar smiled as he turned to him.
"Yep, that's definitely him." Savi nodded as he slowly made his way to Adrian. "Not only did he score six goals, but he also assisted the two that he didn't score."
"Seriously?" Noelle gasped.
"Speak! Why are you here?" Savi asked, the fierceness in his voice untamed. "I refuse to accept that this is just a mere coincidence."
