Leon Voss sat against the cold cavern wall, his breath still heavy from the battle against the Void Serpent. His body trembled—not from fear, but from the overwhelming sensation of power coursing through his veins.

The notification from the system hovered before him, its glowing letters pulsing faintly.

Leon clenched his fist, feeling a faint surge of energy within him. Before, he had been nothing more than a cripple, his meridians shattered beyond repair. Now, though barely noticeable, a small thread of Qi circulated within him.

It wasn't enough to make him strong. Not yet.

The system had given him something no one else had—a second chance.

Leon focused his mind, and another screen materialized before him.

Leon frowned. His meridians were still damaged, but 10% restoration meant he was already in a better state than before.

His eyes shifted to the System Points (SP). If he had earned 10 from a single quest, then these points were likely a currency within the system.

A robotic voice answered in his mind.

Leon exhaled. So for now, his only method of increasing strength was through quests and his newly obtained skill.

Leon turned his attention to his only skill—Energy Drain (Basic).

Description: Absorbs the life force and energy of living beings upon direct contact. Restores the host's vitality and slightly enhances cultivation. Warning: Excessive use may cause instability in the host's spiritual foundation.

Leon smirked. The skill was dangerous, but so was he.

Standing up, he glanced at the corpse of the Void Serpent.

Kneeling beside the serpent's lifeless form, he pressed his palm against its withered scales and activated Energy Drain once more.

Dark tendrils of energy coiled around his arm, sinking into his body. Unlike before, when he used it in desperation, this time he focused—guiding the stolen essence through his meridians.

Warmth spread through his limbs. His breath steadied, his injuries mended even further, and a faint pulse of Qi flowed more smoothly within him.

Leon took a deep breath and checked his status.

This meant the skill could speed up his recovery. The only issue was—how much could he take before the instability warning became a real problem?

For now, he couldn't afford to worry about that. He needed to move.

As he turned deeper into the ruins, the cavern walls shifted, revealing ancient carvings. Strange symbols glowed faintly in the dim blue light, and the eerie silence of the ruins pressed against him.

Faint, distant, but unmistakably real.

His eyes narrowed as he stepped forward cautiously. The Abyssal Ruins were dangerous, but if there was something—or someone—down here, then he had to find out whether they were a threat or an opportunity.

And in this forsaken place, opportunities led to power.

Leon smirked and walked into the darkness, ready to claim whatever the system had in store for him.
