Chapter 8: The Abyssal Forge
The growl echoed through the chamber, low and menacing. Leon's pulse quickened. His eyes darted toward the darkness beyond the ruins, where two crimson orbs gleamed like burning coals.
Then it stepped forward.
A beast—no, a construct of metal and bone—emerged from the shadows. Its body was shaped like a monstrous wolf, yet its flesh was a fusion of dark steel and pulsating veins of obsidian energy. The Ruins Guardian.
[New Enemy Identified: Abyssal Sentinel]
[Rank: Tier 4 Guardian]
[Threat Level: Lethal]
Leon barely had time to react before the construct lunged, claws like serrated blades slashing toward him. He twisted to the side, barely avoiding the strike, but the sheer force of the attack sent him skidding across the stone floor.
His mind raced. This wasn't an ordinary beast—it was a relic from the past, something left behind to guard these ruins. He had no choice. If he wanted answers, he had to fight.
Battle in the Dark
Leon activated his Ascension System, feeling energy surge through his limbs. His blade, still dull from his previous battles, vibrated as a faint glow enveloped it.
The Abyssal Sentinel charged again, faster this time. It swiped at him with brutal force, and Leon barely raised his sword in time to block. The impact sent tremors through his arms, nearly numbing them.
"I can't fight this thing head-on… I need an opening."
He sidestepped another strike and focused his energy. The ruins were ancient, filled with remnants of old cultivation formations. If he could manipulate the environment, he might stand a chance.
His eyes scanned the chamber. That's when he saw it—a forging altar at the far end of the room, its anvil glowing faintly with lingering energy.
A plan formed in his mind.
He dodged another swipe and sprinted toward the altar. The beast roared and gave chase, its heavy footfalls shaking the ground. Leon reached the altar and slammed his palm onto the glowing symbols.
[Forging Altar Activated]
A surge of power erupted from the stone platform, engulfing his blade in black flames. The rust and cracks melted away, replaced by a smooth, midnight sheen.

Attack Power: +40%
Special Effect: Abyssal Corrosion (Weakens enemy armor over time)
Leon turned just in time to see the Abyssal Sentinel leap at him. This time, he was ready. He sidestepped and slashed. His blade cut through the creature's metallic hide like paper, leaving a deep, glowing wound.
The construct howled in pain, its movements slowing.
"Now!"
Leon didn't hesitate. He leaped onto the guardian's back and plunged his sword deep into its core. Black energy surged through the weapon, consuming the beast from within. It convulsed violently before finally collapsing, its body disintegrating into ashes.
Secrets of the Abyss
As the dust settled, the system chimed again.
[Quest Completed: Defeat the Abyssal Sentinel]
[Reward: Memory Fragment + Hidden Ability Unlocked]
Leon barely had time to catch his breath before a new vision flashed before his eyes. He saw the same ruined battlefield from before, but this time, something was different.
A towering forge stood in the distance, its flames fueled by the souls of fallen warriors. A voice echoed in his mind.
"The Abyssal Forge… where weapons are born from the blood of the damned. Seek it, and you will find your true power."
The vision faded, leaving Leon trembling.
"The Abyssal Forge… Could it be real?"
He tightened his grip on his newly reforged blade. There was only one way to find out.
And so, with the ruins behind him and new purpose in his heart, Leon set out toward his next destination.
