Chapter 3. First Mission Underway
Natasha walked rather hastily down the long winding hallways, it was hard for Kai to keep up. By the time she stopped he was finally out of breath. She stopped before an elevator door, it choked open and they stepped into it.
By the time they stepped out of it they were in a different hall or rather a sort of building. It looked like the inside of a large organisation. When he paid closer attention it was a mall filled with bustling people and businesses.
Before Kai could talk Natasha cut him off. "Our base is located under this mall."
Kai could not hide his surprise. "So this is what the inside of a mall looks like."
Natasha shot him a glance but said nothing, she then turned and walked towards a male clothing store and looked at the man sitting by the counter slurping noodles, he had brown hair and a fully bearded face. His face was chubby and he wore square glasses, whilen they stood before him he was already absorbed by his food. Seeing him eat to dutifully Kai's mouth started to water.
He looked up at her and gasped. "Oh, shit! Whatever it was you think I did, it wasn't me I swear."
Kai was put off by this reaction.
Natasha looked down at him with the scorn Kai had become accustomed to, seeing her show this side to someone else gave him a bit of pleasure.
"Get him a change of clothes, a classic tux, well pressed. Fitted, leather shoes, a silver wristwatch." She ordered.
The man gestured for Kai to follow him to get measured, Kai stood there shocked as he looked at Natasha who still looked like she had said nothing important. "Are you taking me out to a date?"
She hissed at him. "Follow Max and get fitted immediately."
Kai shot back. "Don't boss me around like you own the place you stuck up bitch, I am a free man."
Natasha scowled at him.
Max pulled in closer and said. "Actually buddy, she does own the place from top to bottom."
Kai's face whitened, he looked at Natasha in a new light. Her face was fuming, Max cut in and dragged him away from her rage.
"Dude, do you want to die?" He said as he started to measure Kai.
Kai shook off his daze and spoke. "I'm new here I guess."
Max's face brightened. "Oh wow, a new brother in arms. I would have introduced you to the rest of the team before you die but they're on mission now."
Kai raised a questioning eyebrow. "Before I die? Why am I dying?"
Max went into a wall of clothes and started rummaging through it, he spoke loud enough for Kai to here. "The name's Maximus Cordius by the way. If you are wearing a tux then Natasha must be taking you to the gala tonight."
Many words there did not sound right to Kai but one thing stuck out more. "Your name sounds weird, are you a vampire?"
Max continued. "Here at project striker we take down rogues, villains and heroes included. They might not say it but we are the real heroes here. I function in this department to get out agents equipped."
Kai interrupted. "But you sell cloth."
Max nodded. "Daytime job, if I ain't got work down there I've got to keep busy not to slack off. I'm an exception so I come here to get away from work at times."
Kai took a while to respond. "You seem like a broken ma to me."
This reply got a glare from Max who had just returned with the tux he would be wearing. "And you're not fun."
Kai looked at the clothes and said. "Now back to the me dying part."
Max sighed with a heavy heart as he spoke. "Natasha might be an overbearing monster but she's our strongest ball. With her status as the owner of this mall she'll be infiltrating a gala held by the mob boss of the Darci crime family. Morello Darci is a big pain in the ass in this community, he will be making a deal our boss. If she catches him with the drug we will need to apprehend them. She can do it but she would need backup incase things go a little out of hand, like another user showing up."
This was a lot to take in for Kai who had just realised that he had been asleep for three years until now. And now he was a hero agent for some secret hero league. "Wait why me, I don't know shit, I can't even fight. And what about you?"
Max chuckled and said. "I can't, I'm not fighter. I'm a lover. I create death machines and besides this is my happy time. My guess is that Natasha wants to test you instead of train you, that way it saves us time. Besides the deal is tonight, we ain't gonna get a chance to train you."
"What sort of awful timing is this?" Kai whined. "How many hours do I have at least."
Max chuckled again as he made his way out with the tux in hand. "One hour I guess. Oh and your outfit is bulletproof courtesy of you buddy Maximus Cordius."
Now Kai wanted to cry. "Bullet...proof? Shit, there are gonna be guns here. I'm gonna die again."
