chapter 34

Late at night, Kaekilia sat on her throne overlooking the central hall. Alone, for an entire day, with no one else present.

The hall, which could easily accommodate hundreds of people, was extremely quiet, and all the lights were turned off, creating an eerie atmosphere. The only source of light was the moonlight streaming in through the large glass windows.

Kaekilia crossed her legs, her right thigh resting on her left, leaning back on a throne adorned with red cushions and gold, her right elbow resting on the dragon-carved armrest, and staring at something in the center of the hall.

It was the corpse of something that had been called her brother in the past, already cold and frozen for a long time. The black blood that had been flowing out had already hardened. It no longer moved or stirred.

The moment the Holy Sword blossomed, the order had already changed, but there was another reason why Kaikylia brought the corpse here and watched it for a day.

"Did you say you don't know anything?"

A cold mutter escaped Kaikeliya's lips.

When ordered to tell everything about the new recruits, Iris replied that she knew almost nothing.

At best, all they knew was where they had met the new recruit, why they had brought him to the Order, and what had happened after he had been brought to the Order.

It wasn't particularly helpful information, except for the fact that he had been cursed by a witch and lost most of his memories and all of his abilities had been reduced to rock bottom.

"All abilities have deteriorated?"

The corners of his mouth slightly curled up. It was an action that clearly contained ridicule.

There was no lie in Iris' words. At least Iris herself, and the commander of the knights who brought in a new knight whose identity was unknown, firmly believed that the explanation she had given was the truth.

"Then, you must have lied."

Kaikeliya rose from her throne. Slowly, step by step, she began to descend the stairs. Her feet, wrapped in black boots, stepped across the red carpet.

The footsteps stopped in front of the corpse of a half-man, half-horse with a holy sword stuck in it. A cold gaze that started from golden eyes that were even more golden than gold slowly scanned the outer appearance.

A half-grown horn on the head. A face with a mouth that extends all the way to the ears. Wings covered in membranes that sprout from the back. Scales that grow all over the body. Arms and legs that have changed into reverse joints. Long, extended fingernails.

And, the wounds that emit a faint white light in response to the holy sword's divine power.

"Foolish. Did you think I wouldn't notice?"

As soon as Kaikeliah saw her brother the demon in the basement, she realized that his entire body was covered in scars carved by divine weapons.

It seemed as if he had intended to hide his wounds by utilizing the demon's inherent resilience, and had thrown it to the knight commanders to beat up the lord to their hearts' content, but it was all in vain.

The scars engraved by divine power on the body of an unclean thing are not something that can be easily hidden.

Although she may be inferior to the Popes of the Holy Kingdom of Raphael, who were considered to be nothing more than goddesses descended to earth, Caecilia was also someone who could wield the Holy Sword with her own strength.

Even if all the sacred weapons on the continent were gathered together, the weapon that would be considered to be more powerful than them was the Holy Sword, and it was impossible for a being capable of wielding the Holy Sword to not be able to discern the scars engraved with divine power.

Kaikylia gripped the handle of the holy sword tightly. Then, the faint white light flowing out from various parts of the demon's body became even darker. It was a short wound, but it dug deep into the inside.

It was a dagger mark.

"You have a dagger that has been blessed and imbued with divine power, yet you have lost your memory and do not even know who you are? Do you really think that will be a good excuse?"

The cold ridicule continued. A human who not only possessed the blessed dagger but was also able to wield it, lost his memories and had no abilities at all?

It was a lie. Given the scars engraved by the blessed weapon on this half-man, half-horse's body, he could not help but think that the new knight had lied to him.

Aurora was a woman with absolutely no fighting ability. Although she had matured in every way since her childhood, this was only a matter of appearance and personality, not of fighting ability.

The four knight commanders of the Knights of the Silver Dawn have outstanding fighting abilities, but they are also unable to wield divine powers.

It's only natural. Even if you loot the entire empire, there won't be a single human being who can use divine powers without being associated with the Holy Nation of Raphaella.

But it wasn't him. Kaekilia thought deeply.

Even though it is a weak demon that has failed to even devour a single human, in order to inflict significant damage on such a demon, one must be at least a novice nun of the Holy See.

Even women called novice nuns in the Vatican had the power to lead a large church outside.

That's what it meant to repel the devil.

"Everything contradicts itself, yet everything fits together."

The more I thought about it, the more curious I became about the identity of that rookie knight.

It is said that he wields divine powers that can inflict damage on demons, but he is cursed and all of his abilities have been reduced.

It is said that he has such great knowledge that he was able to obtain blessed weapons from somewhere, but he has lost all the memories that should support that knowledge.

Nothing is known about him, yet he acts as if he knows everything.

so.

"It can't be true that you don't know anything, right… …"

The corners of his lips that had been vaguely raised didn't think about lowering. It seemed like it was the first time in a long time, a really long time, that he was having such pleasant worries.

If everything the newbie says is false, then the contents of the letter sent by Aurora are also false. How could such a powerful person 'accidentally' find a book possessed by a demon? How could that be possible?

"Tell the Knight Commander of the Golden Twilight Knights to come up."

Kaekilia shouted into the empty air. The echoes bounced off the walls and pillars, and then a knight strode majestically through the side door of the central hall.

He was a knight wearing armor decorated with gold all over his body, and his cloak, helmet, and scabbard were all decorated with gold. The knight approached Caicilia with a measured gait and knelt down.

"You have called, Your Majesty!"

"I will give you an order."

"Yes, tell me anything!"

"Take the gold coins and go to Aurora's territory. Go there and give the money to the lord there as a reward for dealing with the demons in time, and then find the Knights of the Silver Dawn."

As the words "Knights of the Silver Dawn" came out of Kaikilia's mouth, the knight wearing the helmet flinched for a moment. Regardless, Kaikilia continued speaking.

"There will be a new guy who joined there recently. Watch what he does and everything he does. I'll give you two weeks."

"What should I do after watching?"

"Report to me without missing a single thing. Even if it seems trivial on the surface, it doesn't matter. Don't leave anything out."

"Yes, Your Majesty!"

The knight in golden armor bowed his head and turned around with a measured gesture as he left the central hall. With a thud, the door closed, and he was left alone in the central hall again.

"I've never been so interested in anything in my entire life, but being interested in something is such a joyful feeling."

Approaching the demon's corpse, Kaikylia stared blankly at the dozen or so scars that still showed faint divine power. Then, she grabbed the handle of the holy sword that had pierced the body and infused it with strength.

A light like the sun burst out from the holy sword. With a bang, the demon's corpse was engulfed in white flames and began to burn. It was a purifying flame that only condemned heresy.

The demon's body soon turned into a pile of ash and disappeared. When Kaikylia finished processing it, she released the handle, and the holy sword immediately turned into a bright halo. Nothing remained where the corpse had been.

"I will watch over you."

After finishing her work, Kaikilia muttered:

I will keep an eye on that newbie. I will watch and watch him again, and I will do whatever it takes to find out what secrets he is hiding.

Lying in a letter to yourself? I can easily let it go. Hiding your true identity? I can easily let it go. Such behavior was nothing more than a minor deviation.

Just one thing. If that person was truly a person who could help fulfill his ambitions, and if he was a person who would be a loyal sword by Caiquelia's side, then he could easily turn a blind eye to such trivial matters.

"But if not."

A fierce murderous spirit rose in the golden eyes that suddenly appeared. If not, then he would be just a piece of trash that would stand out for a moment like many other idiots and then be thrown to the ground.

There will definitely be a price to pay.

"So, prove your abilities."

So that this joyful feeling can last for a long time without being completely erased by the cruel ending.
