If We Meet Again

By Biplob Kabiraz

If we met again, like that day on the road,I would stand with my heart full of pain, beside you, cold.Tears would well up at the corners of my eyes,Would you know, this pain is still here, for you, it lies?

If we met again, in that afternoon light,Would you say, "I spent my days with you, so right"?Your smile was my companion, in those days we spent,Today it's just a memory, and a debt unspent.

When did the dreams of holding your hand slip away? Why do you still return in my eyes, in my every day?Do you know, on our wedding night, from afar I looked,Singing a broken heart's song, with your voice, I cooked.

Your sari swayed, and glass bangles would chime,In my chest, the storm roared, a sign of a time. The conch sound echoed, but you remained silent, still,I know, beneath your smile, there was a hidden thrill.

If we met again, maybe I would forget it all,Yet somehow, those pains would still hold me in their thrall.May you stay happy, is the prayer I send every day,Even if you forget, I can't wipe this debt away.

The hand I wanted to hold for a lifetime,Do you know, for you, I still dream, lost in time?If we meet again, on any road, any way,Would you understand, I couldn't erase the sorrow of yesterday?
