Dane instructed them to dump the alligators into that fish pond, wait until they had nearly devoured me, then capture the alligators and discard them nearby, leaving some alligator traces. After a few days, the alligators would naturally wander off.

The scene was meant to create the impression that I had been tragically attacked by wild alligators.

However, those two men, handling their first murder, drank heavily to steel their nerves.

The next morning, unable to remember if they had disposed of the alligators, they simply left them be.

When discovered, Dane readily confessed everything, hoping for a reduced sentence.

To receive a lighter punishment, Dane used the same pitiful story he had told Vivienne when explaining his actions.
