Chapter 1: The Lazy Master Awakens

Lin Feng woke up with a splitting headache. The moment he opened his eyes, he was greeted by the sight of a crumbling rooftop, its wooden beams barely holding together. Dust floated in the air, and a faint, musty scent of decay filled his nostrils.

Where was he?

He sat up, groaning as pain shot through his body. His clothes were ragged, his arms thin, and his stomach—empty. That was the first real concern. Hunger. But more pressing was the flood of memories rushing into his mind.

Lin Feng, once an ordinary man from Earth, had apparently reincarnated into the Fallen Cloud Sect—a name that sounded impressive, but in reality, was a nearly abandoned, third-rate sect at the edge of the cultivation world. More specifically, he was now occupying the body of the sect's last remaining inner disciple.

And judging by the aching, weakened state of his body, this new identity was not a particularly talented one.

"Great," he muttered. "I transmigrated, and I didn't even get a protagonist template? What kind of scam is this?"

As if in response, a loud ding! echoed in his mind.

[Supreme Ancestor System Activated!]

Lin Feng froze. A system? That was more like it. Maybe this world wasn't so cruel after all.

[Congratulations, host! You have been selected as the sole inheritor of the Supreme Ancestor System! From this moment forward, your cultivation is limitless, your lifespan eternal, and your abilities unparalleled! You are, in short, invincible.]

Lin Feng squinted. That... sounded a little excessive.

"Are you serious?" he asked.

[Yes.]

He looked down at his hands, wiggled his fingers, and tried to sense something—anything—that felt powerful. But nothing seemed different. No sudden surge of energy. No divine aura. No golden light bursting from the heavens.

"So I'm just supposed to believe I'm invincible?"

[Yes.]

"Huh."

Well, that was interesting. But he was too hungry to think about it. He needed food first. Power later.

With that goal in mind, he stood up, stretched, and immediately heard the creak of the fragile wooden floor beneath him. The entire sect looked like it would collapse with a strong breeze.

As he stepped outside, he was greeted by a wide courtyard filled with cracked stone tiles, overgrown weeds, and a few small, wooden buildings barely standing. This was Fallen Cloud Sect, a place that had apparently once been grand, but now barely had any people left.

And speaking of people—

A hunched-over old man with a long, white beard was sitting in the courtyard, coughing violently. His robes, once dignified, were worn and patched. He barely looked alive.

Lin Feng vaguely recognized him from the inherited memories.

This was Elder Xu, the current sect master. Or rather, the last person desperately trying to keep this sect from disappearing entirely.

Lin Feng barely had time to process that when Elder Xu turned his frail head toward him. His eyes, originally dull, suddenly lit up in shock.

"You... You've awakened?"

Lin Feng blinked. "Uh. Yeah?"

Elder Xu's entire body trembled, and then—before Lin Feng could react—the old man fell to his knees.

"This must be fate...! To think that our Fallen Cloud Sect's most talented disciple would finally awaken his true potential...!"

Lin Feng tilted his head. "Huh?"

Elder Xu's breathing was ragged, but he was grinning like a madman. "I should have known! The way you've spent all these years in deep meditation, seemingly asleep, was merely a disguise! You were comprehending the Dao, weren't you?!"

Lin Feng blinked again.

Wait. Was this old man serious?

His brain caught up a moment later. Oh. This body's original owner had been a chronic sleeper. He had spent years doing nothing but lying around.

And somehow, this had now been reinterpreted as deep, profound cultivation.

Lin Feng felt a headache forming.

"No, I think you're misunderstanding—"

"There's no need for modesty!" Elder Xu's voice was filled with reverence. "I always suspected you were hiding your true strength, but to think that it would be revealed at such a crucial time...!"

Lin Feng opened his mouth, then closed it.

If an old man wanted to believe he was some hidden expert, who was he to argue?

He sighed. "Alright, fine. Let's go with that."

Elder Xu beamed. But then his expression grew solemn. "Lin Feng... I have held this sect together for as long as I could, but my time is short. I cannot guide you any further. From this moment forward..." He took a deep breath. "You are the new Sect Master of the Fallen Cloud Sect."

Lin Feng froze.

"Wait. What?"

Before he could protest, Elder Xu collapsed—either unconscious or dead.

Lin Feng stared at him. Then at the empty, ruined sect around him. Then at the title he had just been forced into.

This... was way too much responsibility.

"Can I refuse?"

[No.]

Lin Feng sighed and sat down. "This sucks."

Just as he was about to close his eyes and pretend this wasn't happening, a loud voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Oi! Anyone still alive in this dump?"

Lin Feng looked up. Two rogue cultivators in tattered robes were stepping into the sect's main courtyard. Their weapons gleamed in the sunlight.

One of them sneered. "Tch. Thought this place was abandoned. But if there's still some fool breathing, maybe we can loot it first."

Lin Feng frowned. "You know I can hear you, right?"

The taller rogue cracked his knuckles. "Yeah? So what?"

Lin Feng sighed and lazily waved his hand. "Just leave. I don't have the energy for this."

A breeze swept through the courtyard.

The two rogues froze. Their faces went pale.

And then—before Lin Feng could even process what had happened—both men dropped dead on the spot.

[Supreme Ancestor System Passive Ability Activated: Any hostile intent toward the host results in instant elimination.]

Lin Feng stared at the bodies.

What.

He hadn't even done anything.

From behind him, one of the sect's last remaining outer disciples had been watching the entire exchange. His mouth was wide open, his hands trembling.

"S-Sect Master... He... He killed them... without even moving...!"

Lin Feng's stomach growled. He rubbed his temples.

"Sure. Let's go with that."

The outer disciple immediately knelt.

"Sect Master Lin Feng is truly a hidden god...!"

Lin Feng sighed. He just wanted a nap.

Too bad fate had other plans.
