The Fallen Cloud Sect, once an insignificant, third-rate sect on the brink of collapse, had suddenly transformed into the most feared mystery of the cultivation world.
Rumors were spreading like wildfire.
—"The Supreme Ancestor of the Fallen Cloud Sect crushed Bai Zhi of the Silver Moon Sect without even moving!"
—"He has reached a level where mere mortals cannot comprehend his Dao!"
—"A single glance from him contains the weight of the heavens!"
In reality, Lin Feng had just been trying to finish his breakfast.
But that didn't matter.
Because now, every single disciple in the sect was training like their lives depended on it.
Lin Feng watched from the great hall's rickety wooden balcony as the outer disciples swung their swords with newfound vigor. Even the sect's run-down library, which had previously been collecting dust, was now filled with eager disciples studying ancient scrolls.
Lin Feng sighed.
"How did this even happen…"
"Because of your divine presence, Master," Xiao Yan said seriously, standing beside him.
Lin Feng gave him a look. "That was a rhetorical question."
But Xiao Yan, oblivious to sarcasm, continued.
"The moment you became sect master, the energy of the sect changed. We are no longer a forgotten sect doomed to fade away! We are standing at the dawn of something great!"
Lin Feng pinched the bridge of his nose. This kid was too far gone.
"Right. Well, since you're all so motivated, you handle the sect. I'll just go back to sleep."
Xiao Yan's eyes widened. "Master, no!"
Lin Feng groaned. "What now?"
"The Supreme Sect must have order! And a sect cannot be great without a proper structure!"
Lin Feng blinked. "The what?"
"The Supreme Sect!" Xiao Yan's expression was filled with conviction. "That is what we must now call ourselves!"
Lin Feng rubbed his temples. They had already renamed the sect?!
"Whatever," he muttered. "Just don't bother me with the details."
Xiao Yan nodded, fired up with determination. "Then as the Sect Master, you must appoint an inner circle!"
Lin Feng opened his mouth to protest, but before he could, Xiao Yan dropped to one knee.
"Sect Master, I, Xiao Yan, swear to serve as your first core disciple! I will uphold your teachings and lead our forces in your name!"
The other disciples, seeing this, immediately knelt as well.
"Supreme Ancestor, please grant us roles within the sect!"
Lin Feng felt a headache coming on.
But before he could refuse, a loud, piercing eagle cry echoed in the distance.
A golden messenger crane descended from the sky, landing gracefully on the stone steps. A rolled-up jade scroll was tied to its leg.
The disciples gasped.
"An imperial messenger crane…!"
Lin Feng sighed. "Now what?"
Xiao Yan picked up the scroll and unfolded it. As his eyes moved over the text, his expression grew serious.
"Sect Master," he said, voice tense. "The Seven Star Sect has summoned you to the Grand Sect Assembly in three days."
Lin Feng raised an eyebrow. "Seven Star Sect?"
Xiao Yan's fists clenched. "They are one of the Five Great Sects, ruling over this entire region. They oversee all sects, and… they have called you to answer for Bai Zhi's defeat."
Lin Feng blinked.
"Wait. They're mad about that? I didn't even do anything!"
Xiao Yan's expression darkened. "The Seven Star Sect holds authority over countless smaller sects. Even though Bai Zhi is from the Silver Moon Sect, humiliating someone of his status is seen as an insult to the great sects themselves."
Lin Feng stared at him. "So they're mad because I was too strong?"
"Essentially."
Lin Feng sighed. "That's stupid."
Xiao Yan's expression was grim. "Master… I must warn you. The Grand Sect Assembly is held once every fifty years, and only the most powerful sects receive an invitation. For the Fallen Clou— I mean, for the Supreme Sect to be invited means that we are being recognized as a potential rising power."
Lin Feng rubbed his chin.
A major sect meeting? Politics? Drama? He really did not want to go.
"Can I refuse?"
Xiao Yan shook his head. "No. Refusing would be seen as an act of defiance."
Lin Feng groaned.
Of course it would.
"So let me get this straight," he said. "I try to mind my own business, someone challenges me, I don't even fight back, and now I'm being summoned by a major sect?"
Xiao Yan nodded.
Lin Feng sighed, leaning back against the wooden post.
"…Sounds annoying."
But Xiao Yan's eyes burned with excitement.
"This is it, Master! This is how our sect rises! The Grand Sect Assembly will be attended by sect leaders, powerful elders, and even wandering immortals! It is the perfect place to show the world your greatness!"
Lin Feng looked at him flatly.
"…Or it's a perfect place for me to be dragged into even more trouble."
Xiao Yan, of course, did not hear that.
"This will be a battle of wits, power, and influence! I will personally prepare our sect's delegation!"
Lin Feng sighed.
He had a really bad feeling about this.
