I rubbed my sore temples. The blue light from the computer screen was especially dazzling in the late night. It was already one o'clock in the morning, and this damned proposal still hadn't been revised. I reached out to grab the coffee cup on the table, only to find that the cup had somehow already been emptied.
Just as I was about to get up to refill it, the laptop suddenly let out a piercing electrical sound, and the screen began to flicker violently. I instinctively leaned back and randomly tapped a few keys on the keyboard, trying to make it return to normal.
But things got even worse.
The document on the screen started to distort and deform. The words seemed to be kneaded by some kind of force, twisting into strange shapes. I pressed the power button hard, but the computer didn't respond at all. Cold sweat trickled down my back, and I could feel my heart rate accelerating.
"Damn it!" I cursed under my breath and frantically tapped the keys on the keyboard. I had just bought this computer last week, spending my entire month's salary on it. How could such a problem occur?
Suddenly, the screen went pitch black. I let out a sigh of relief, thinking that it had finally shut down. But the next second, the screen lit up again, and this time, it didn't show my document.
It was a photo.
It was a photo of a woman. She was wearing a white dress, with her long hair flowing down, standing in a dimly lit room. The photo had a very low pixel quality, as if it had been taken with an old-fashioned mobile phone. Even so, I could still clearly see her face—pale skin, sunken eye sockets, and those eyes that stared straight at the camera.
I felt my throat tighten, and my fingers trembled as I reached to unplug the power cord. Just then, the photo suddenly started to change. The woman's head slowly turned, and her eyes, which had originally been looking straight at the camera, were now staring straight at me.
I suddenly stood up from the chair, and the chair fell heavily to the ground. The computer screen was still on, and that photo occupied the entire screen. The corners of the woman's mouth began to turn up, revealing a strange and eerie smile. Her eyes stared at me without blinking, and I could feel her gaze as if it had pierced through the screen and directly entered my soul.
"This can't be possible..." I murmured to myself and rubbed my eyes vigorously. But when I looked at the screen again, the woman's face had filled the entire display. Her skin began to peel off, revealing the decaying muscle tissue underneath. Her lips moved, as if she was saying something, but I couldn't hear a single sound.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my fingers. I looked down and saw that the keys on the keyboard were jumping wildly, as if there were countless invisible fingers typing. What was even more terrifying was that I felt a force pulling me towards the screen.
I struggled desperately, but that force grew stronger and stronger. My face was almost pressed against the screen, and I could clearly see the maggots wriggling on the woman's decaying skin. Her eyes had become two pitch-black holes, and it seemed as if there were countless hands reaching out from them.
Just then, I heard a voice, a hoarse and sobbing voice coming from the computer: "Save me... Save me..."
I felt my consciousness starting to blur, and the scene in front of me began to distort. Just as I thought I was about to be pulled into the screen, the computer suddenly let out a loud bang, and the screen went completely black.
I slumped to the ground, gasping for breath, and my entire body was soaked in cold sweat. The room was deathly silent, with only the sound of my rapid breathing. I stood up tremblingly, wanting to get away from this damned computer.
But when I turned around, I heard a "ding" sound behind me. I froze in place, not daring to look back. That hoarse voice sounded again, this time clearer and closer, as if it were right next to my ear:
"I've finally found you..."
I took a deep breath and forced myself to calm down. The room was pitch black, and only the moonlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains, casting mottled shadows on the floor. I could feel my heart pounding in my ears, and my back was already soaked with cold sweat.
The computer screen was still black, but that voice lingered. I reached out my trembling hand to touch the light switch on the wall, but at that moment, I heard a "click" sound behind me.
It was the sound of a keyboard key being pressed.
I froze in place, my fingers only a few centimeters away from the switch. The room was terrifyingly quiet, and I could hear my rapid breathing, and—another faint breathing sound.
It wasn't mine.
"Don't turn around..." That hoarse voice sounded again, this time with a hint of a strange smile, "Let me take a good look at you..."
I felt a chill run up from the soles of my feet, and all the hairs on my body stood on end. My fingers finally touched the switch, and with a "snap", the blinding white light filled the entire room in an instant.
I suddenly turned around. The computer screen was still black, but the keys on the keyboard were sinking one by one, as if there was an invisible hand typing. I stared intently at the screen, and suddenly, a line of blood-red words slowly appeared:
"You can't escape..."
My mind went blank, and my legs involuntarily stepped backward until my back hit the wall. Just then, the screen suddenly lit up, and that photo of the woman appeared again. But this time, she looked even more terrifying—her entire face was rotten, revealing the white bones underneath. Her eyes were two black holes, and it seemed as if there were countless worms wriggling inside.
"Be a part of me," she said sinisterly.
I felt an inexplicable force pulling me, and my body involuntarily moved closer to the computer. My fingers trembled as I reached towards the screen. Just as I was about to touch it, I suddenly remembered something.
This computer... I bought it from the second-hand market.
That day, a man in a black windbreaker was setting up a stall on the street corner. There was only this one laptop on his stall. I remember he was wearing sunglasses and his face was terrifyingly pale. He said this computer had excellent performance and only cost a thousand yuan. I thought I had gotten a great bargain at that time. Now that I think about it...
"You finally remember..." That voice suddenly became sharp and ear-piercing, "That man... is me..."
I watched in horror as the woman on the screen began to distort and transform, and her face gradually turned into the appearance of the man who sold the computer. The corners of his mouth stretched into an exaggerated arc, revealing his white teeth.
"I've waited for so long... I've finally found you..." His voice came and went, "Now, it's your turn..."
I felt a dizzying sensation, and the scene in front of me began to distort. When I opened my eyes again, I found myself standing in a dimly lit room. This... was the room in the photo.
I looked down at my hands and found that they were becoming transparent. I could feel my consciousness gradually blurring, as if being swallowed up bit by bit by something.
Just then, I heard footsteps outside the door. A familiar voice sounded: "This computer has excellent performance, and it only costs a thousand yuan..."
I desperately wanted to scream, but I couldn't make a sound. I watched as my hands began to rot, and the skin peeled off piece by piece. I finally understood—this was an endless curse, and I had already become a part of it.
