Talent Reborn – Season 2
Episode 18: The Warning
The patient's body convulsed once before going completely still. The heart monitor flatlined.
Haruto's breath caught in his throat. "No, no, no—" He grabbed the defibrillator paddles. Clear!
A shock jolted through the patient's body. No response.
Again. Clear!
Still nothing.
Haruto gritted his teeth. "Damn it, come back!"
Ayaka placed a hand on his arm. "Haruto… he's gone."
The words rang in his ears like a deafening echo. He failed.
The room was silent except for the steady, unchanging beep of the flatline. Haruto let out a slow breath, his hands shaking as he set the paddles down. But his mind wouldn't stop racing. What the hell just happened?
The patient's final words echoed in his head. "You shouldn't have done that."
Renji's voice broke through his thoughts. "Haruto. Look at his body."
Haruto turned his gaze back to the patient—and his blood ran cold.
The black veins had started to fade. Within seconds, they completely disappeared, leaving behind a normal-looking corpse. It was as if nothing had ever been wrong.
Ayaka took a step back, her eyes wide. "That's… impossible."
Haruto clenched his fists. "No. It means someone didn't want us to find out the truth."
Renji's jaw tightened. "They sent him here as a message."
A chill ran down Haruto's spine. "Then we just told them we're listening."
A knock on the OR door startled them. A nurse stepped inside, her expression nervous. "Dr. Aizawa, there's… someone here to see you."
Haruto exchanged a glance with Renji and Ayaka before stepping out into the hallway.
Waiting there was a man in a sharp black suit. His face was calm, unreadable. "Dr. Haruto Aizawa."
Haruto's muscles tensed. "Who's asking?"
The man smiled faintly. "My employer would like a word with you."
Haruto's fingers twitched. "And if I refuse?"
The man's smile didn't falter. "Then I'm afraid you won't get the answers you're looking for."
Renji stepped beside Haruto. "We're not interested in games. Who are you people?"
The man chuckled, reaching into his coat pocket. Haruto's muscles coiled, ready to move—but instead of a weapon, the man pulled out a small, sealed vial.
Inside it was a sample of the same black-veined tissue they had just extracted.
Haruto's breath caught.
The man held it out. "You want the truth? Then come find us."
He turned and walked away, leaving only the vial behind.
Haruto's fists clenched. Whoever these people were, they were watching him. Testing him. And now, they were inviting him deeper into the mystery.
Ayaka swallowed hard. "Haruto… what do we do?"
He picked up the vial, staring at it.
"We find them."
To be continued…
