Sienna walked slowly, almost hesitantly, toward Miranda, who sat collapsed on one of the stiff hospital chairs, her face buried in her trembling hands. For a moment, Sienna just stood there, unsure what to do. Her heart ached at the sight in front of her — a mother broken, grieving the loss of her only child.
Carefully, almost shyly, Sienna reached out and placed a gentle hand on Miranda’s back. She felt the violent shudders racking the woman's body, felt the rawness of her pain. Without a word, Sienna lowered herself into the chair beside her and slowly wrapped her arms around her.
Miranda didn’t resist. She just turned and buried her tear-streaked face into Sienna’s shoulder, sobbing uncontrollably. It broke Sienna’s heart into a thousand more pieces.
"I’m so sorry," Sienna whispered, her own voice cracking as tears pooled in her eyes.
