The Thomas incident didn't cause much of a stir in the lord's mansion.
First, the evidence was conclusive, and he deserved to die.
Second, his death was too direct. Someone's methods of handling things were completely different from the usual noble approach—straightforward and efficient. Before anyone could react, Thomas, with his face washed clean, was already neatly "displayed" in front of everyone.
It was all too real.
In Philip's plan, he needed two days to first guide Sauros to suspect Thomas, then place him under house arrest, and gradually gather evidence.
Finally, he would execute Thomas in public as a warning.
However, this process was drastically shortened to just over ten minutes, leaving Philip with only some solid evidence...
And a cold corpse.
But the follow-up work still needed to be handled by him. After all, Thomas's "connections" in the lord's mansion were deeply intertwined. Some of Philip's own forces in the town needed to be reassured, and some lurking troublemakers from the royal capital needed to be intimidated with the spread of this news.
Thus, after promoting another long-prepared butler—Alphonse—Philip hurriedly left before lunchtime.
Sauros also disappeared somewhere and didn't show up again.
So, the fiery-haired young lady, feeling she was now the mistress of the mansion, led Allen and the others deep into the mansion under Alphonse's helpless and hurried steps. They passed through long corridors and arrived at a rather luxurious living area.
She claimed she wanted to pick out bedrooms for Allen and the others.
However, a small issue arose during this process.
Eris wanted to place Allen and Sylphie's bedrooms next to hers, which Alphonse desperately tried to stop.
"Why not?!"
"Miss, please spare me. If the lord finds out, you'll have a new butler."
"Huh? Don't stop me!!"
Alphonse, a spirited man with a well-groomed goatee and a monocle, looking every bit the refined gentleman, was now in a sorry state. His glasses were askew, hanging at the corner of his mouth, as he clung to the young lady with all his might.
"Miss! Please mind noble etiquette... How can guests stay next to your bedroom? This is too improper... Really, it won't do... Guests have their own designated guest rooms. This area is for you, the young master, and the lord..."
At the same time, he frantically signaled to Allen, Sylphie, and Rudy standing nearby.
Unfortunately, no one paid him any attention.
Rudy, who usually enjoyed watching such scenes, and Sylphie, who was always considerate, stood on either side of Allen, both looking somewhat dazed. However, their occasionally shifting gazes indicated that they weren't indifferent but rather focused on Allen beside them.
The latter had no obvious expression on his face and hadn't said a word, remaining in this state since the brutal killing of Thomas in the square.
The oppressive aura he exuded, which they had never seen before, made the two children somewhat uncomfortable.
This led to the current atmosphere being a bit stiff.
For a moment, the air in the corridor fell silent.
The footsteps also stopped.
Allen, realizing the sudden silence around him, snapped out of his thoughts about the red-clad figure being escorted away by the beast girls. He lowered his gaze.
In his line of sight were the four of them—one old and three young—all staring at his face.
Allen blinked, then turned to Alphonse.
"Regarding the living area, did Lord Philip give any specific instructions?"
Alphonse quickly glanced at Eris, who was staring at Allen with clear dissatisfaction, and awkwardly smiled.
"The young master left in a hurry. He only said..."
He paused for a moment, as if puzzled, but quickly continued.
"He only said... to follow your instructions completely. But... I still think it's inappropriate to stay in this area directly."
"What?! Father said to listen to Allen!"
Just as the wild dog's voice rose, Allen casually flicked the stray hair on her head, stopping her impulse to punch the old butler. This action made Eris shake her head left and right, clearly displeased.
"We'll stay in the guest area."
"Huh?"
Allen crouched down, meeting the eyes of the somewhat irritable wild dog, his gaze calm.
"Eris, this isn't appropriate."
"Huh?"
"The area you live in isn't just for you. It's also for your mother, father, and grandfather. This isn't your private space but belongs to your entire family. As outsiders, staying in the guest area shows a sense of propriety. It won't cross the boundaries of 'relationships.'"
"Alphonse, as your family's butler, is responsible for managing your family affairs for your grandfather. So, don't make things difficult for him, okay?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Sylphie and Rudy exchanged glances, their expressions stiff.
Alphonse, on the other hand, nodded repeatedly, looking relieved.
Eris stared at Allen for a moment, then reluctantly said, "Fine! We'll stay in the guest area. Alphonse, lead the way!"
The guest area was located in a corner of the mansion's first floor and hadn't been used in a long time. The classroom for Eris's usual lessons was right across from the guest area, converted from one of the guest rooms.
Compared to other spacious and purpose-specific rooms, it seemed a bit haphazard.
However, thanks to its sunny location, the lighting was decent.
According to Alphonse, the lord's mansion rarely had guests staying over. Rather than a guest area, it was more like a "dormitory" for Eris's tutors. The classroom across from it was originally set up for convenience in teaching.
That a certain young lady later used this convenient setup to wake up early and ambush her sleeping tutors with a wooden sword was purely an accident.
At this moment, in the classroom, the midday sunlight spilled over the table in front of them. As Rudy's mouth twitched, the old butler assured Allen and the others that they needn't worry.
His words were sincere.
As he spoke, Eris, looking at the chairs in front of the table, subtly counted them with her fingers.
As soon as Alphonse finished speaking, she excitedly pointed at the chairs and loudly made her arrangements.
"This is my seat!"
The chair in the very center of the table.
"This is Sylphie's seat!"
To the left of Eris's seat.
"This is Allen's seat!"
To the right of Eris's seat.
"This is Ghislaine's seat!"
Opposite Eris's seat.
"Alright! That's the arrangement!"
Very efficient.
She had perfectly calculated that there were only four chairs at the table.
Rudy, who had been watching Alphonse, was stunned.
"What about mine?"
Eris raised an eyebrow.
"Huh? You stand!"
Sylphie, who had been stifling a laugh, quickly covered her mouth and turned to Allen.
The latter also smiled wryly.
But with his smile, the tense atmosphere between them seemed to instantly lighten, becoming much more relaxed.
Phew, glad I held off on a chapter yesterday. To be honest, I haven't finished writing this chapter yet...
Next chapter will continue.
Being a "three-accompanying" (entertaining) person has made me a bit scatterbrained. The plan was to have Hilda appear here...
Ah, no time now...
