chapter 53: I will let u win , so I can see

The moment Elias stepped out of the room, the Alpha remained still, his gaze fixed on the door long after it had closed. He could still hear the faint sound of the guards leading the Omega away, their footsteps fading down the corridor.

Slowly, he exhaled, letting his smirk linger just a little longer.

He had noticed everything.

The way Elias had kept his head lowered—but not in true submission. A properly broken Omega would have bowed deeper, shoulders trembling, eyes darting away in fear. But Elias… he was careful. Controlled. He made himself appear fragile, but there was something too deliberate about it.

And then there was the hesitation.

It was subtle, but the Alpha had caught it. When he told Elias that he would be accompanying him, there had been a brief, nearly imperceptible pause. Elias had masked it well, forcing his hands to twitch as if nervous, lowering his head just enough to appear uncertain.

But the Alpha had spent years studying people. He knew the difference between true fear and calculated restraint.

Elias wasn't afraid of going outside.

He was wary of something else.

The Alpha slowly moved back to the table, his fingers tracing over the battle maps as he let his mind turn over the puzzle before him.

An Omega who had survived an assassination attempt. An Omega who had been hand-delivered to him instead of a noble's daughter. An Omega who flinched at the wrong moments and remained utterly still at the right ones.

Elias was hiding something.

The Alpha had suspected as much last night. He had lingered outside the Omega's quarters longer than necessary, testing, waiting. And Elias had stayed awake the entire time.

Even though the room had been silent, the Alpha had felt it—the keen awareness in the air.

A normal Omega, after such an attack, would have been restless, tossing and turning. Maybe crying. Maybe trembling.

But Elias had done none of those things.

He had lain still. Too still.

It had been a test, and Elias had passed it without realizing he was being watched. He had kept his breathing even, his posture relaxed. If the Alpha hadn't been paying attention, he might have believed the act.

But he had noticed the truth.

Elias had not been sleeping.

And that meant something.

The Alpha let his fingers tap idly against the table, considering.

He could have pushed harder just now, pressed Elias until the carefully crafted mask cracked. But that would have been a mistake. If he startled Elias too soon, he would lose his chance to see the full picture.

No, it was better to let the Omega believe he was winning this game.

Better to let him think his act was flawless.

That was why the Alpha hadn't called him out on his hesitation, why he had let the excuses slide. He wanted Elias to feel secure enough to slip up on his own.

Because he would.

Sooner or later, the Omega would reveal exactly what he was hiding.

And the Alpha would be there, watching.

Waiting.

Smirking to himself, he turned back to the maps, already thinking about how he would test Elias next.
