chapter 108: feeling nice is the problem

Elias ran a hand over his face, his breath still uneven. The weight of the dream clung to him, wrapping around his thoughts like a vice, refusing to let go.

His body shouldn't have reacted like that. It had never happened before. Not once.

But tonight, with the Alpha's voice still whispering in his mind, with the phantom touch of something that had never actually happened—

His body had betrayed him.

He swallowed hard, pressing the heel of his palm against his forehead as if he could will the memory away.

"It wasn't real."

Just a dream.

A trick of exhaustion, nothing more.

And yet, when he shifted slightly, the evidence of his betrayal was still there, hot and undeniable beneath the sheets.

A fresh wave of panic surged through him.

What if someone had walked in? What if the Alpha—No.

Elias shook his head violently. That was exactly the kind of reckless thinking that would get him caught, that would unravel everything he had worked so hard to protect.

He needed to calm down.

Pushing himself out of bed, he paced the small space of his room, bare feet ghosting over the cold floor. He wanted to tear at his own skin, to scrape off whatever remnants of that dream still lingered on him.

But worse than the physical reaction was the why.

Why him?

Why now?

Elias had spent years training himself to be indifferent to touch, to charm without attachment, to manipulate without ever feeling.

But tonight, his body had reacted instinctively, without his permission, without his control.

And that terrified him.

His fingers curled into fists at his sides.

"This is nothing. A mistake."

He would forget it. He would push it so far into the depths of his mind that it would cease to exist.

And if the Alpha ever looked at him in a way that suggested he knew—

Elias would make sure he never spoke of it again.

Even if he had to ensure it with his own hands.

With a deep breath, he forced himself to sit back on the bed, his jaw clenched.

Morning would come soon.

And when it did, he would pretend none of this had ever happened.

Even if it killed him.
