Water sloshed around Emma's ankles as she and Rahi ran through the half-sunken streets of Eldrin. The ruined kingdom stretched before them—broken towers jutting from the mist, the remains of stone bridges swallowed by the tide.
Behind them, the Drowned Ones followed.
Their twisted, skeletal forms glided through the water, their hollow, black eyes locked onto Emma. Their whispers filled the air.
"Join us…""Sink into the depths…""The sea remembers all…"
Emma clenched her jaw. The Ruby Stone still pulsed at her side, but its fire was useless here. Every time she tried to summon flames, the water swallowed them whole.
Rahi led the way, his pace quick and calculated, his silver eyes scanning the ruins.
"Keep moving!" he shouted. "We need to find the palace!"
Emma's breath came in ragged gasps as she leaped over a fallen pillar, her boots splashing in the rising water. "And if we don't?"
"Then we drown!" Rahi shot back.
Not the answer she wanted.
The Drowned Ones surged forward, their clawed fingers stretching toward her. Emma ducked just as one swiped at her, the cold energy of its touch brushing against her shoulder.
A chill rushed through her veins.
Emma's vision blurred for a second—a memory not her own flashing before her eyes.
A woman, standing on the steps of the palace.A storm, raging above the sea.A stone, glowing deep beneath the water.
Then—darkness.
Emma gasped, stumbling as the vision faded.
"Emma!" Rahi caught her wrist, steadying her. "What happened?"
Emma's fingers tightened around the book at her belt. "I think… I saw something. A memory of Eldrin."
Rahi's eyes narrowed. "The stone?"
She nodded, her pulse racing. "It's not in the palace. It's beneath it."
Rahi exhaled sharply. "Of course it is."
The Drowned Ones shrieked.
Water rushed forward, swallowing the streets in a sudden wave.
Emma's breath caught. The spirits weren't just chasing them—they were flooding the ruins.
Rahi grabbed her arm. "No time to think—jump!"
Before she could argue, he pulled her toward the edge of a collapsed bridge—and they plunged into the water below.

The Sunken City
The cold hit Emma like a punch to the chest.
The murky blue of the ocean depths stretched beneath her as she sank. Her lungs burned as she forced herself to swim, her fingers reaching blindly through the dark water.
Above her, the ruined palace loomed, its broken spires disappearing into the shadows.
Rahi swam beside her, his movements sharp and practiced as he motioned downward.
Emma followed, the weight of her pack slowing her descent. But something was guiding her, a distant hum in the water.
The Sapphire Stone.
It was calling her.
The deeper they swam, the brighter the ocean floor became—pale blue light radiating from beneath the ruins.
And then she saw it.
A circular altar rested beneath the palace, ancient carvings glowing along its edges. At its center, a pedestal stood, cradling a single sapphire-blue stone.
Emma's pulse quickened.
This was it.
She kicked harder, reaching out—
A shadow moved in the water.
Emma's breath froze.
Something massive lurked beneath the ruins—a shape too big, too fast, its glowing yellow eyes locking onto them.
Rahi grabbed her arm, dragging her back.
Emma's heart pounded as the creature emerged.
A serpent—its scales dark as the abyss, its massive form curling around the ruins. Its razor-sharp fangs gleamed in the dim light, its ancient gaze burning into Emma's soul.
The Guardian of the Sapphire Stone.
And it was awake.
