The ruins of Eldrin faded behind them as Emma and Rahi trekked eastward. The Sapphire Stone pulsed at her side, its energy calmer now, but its warning still echoed in her mind.
"The past and the future are bound. To break the cycle, you must first see the chains."
The Topaz Stone lay within the Labyrinth of Veil, a place spoken of only in whispers. A maze that shifted, a place that consumed those who entered.
Emma tightened her grip on her cloak. And we're heading straight for it.
Rahi glanced at her. "You're quiet. That's never a good sign."
Emma exhaled. "Just thinking. The Eclipse King knows I have the Sapphire Stone, which means he probably knows we're going after the next one."
Rahi nodded. "Which means we should assume we're being followed."
The weight of his words settled over them.
Emma didn't look back.
But she felt it.
They weren't alone.

The Labyrinth's Entrance
By nightfall, they reached the outskirts of the Labyrinth of Veil. Before them stretched a massive stone wall, covered in twisting golden inscriptions that shimmered beneath the moonlight.
The entrance stood open—a yawning black passage leading into an abyss of shifting corridors.
Emma's pulse quickened. "We just… walk in?"
Rahi crossed his arms. "That's how most people get lost forever, yeah."
Emma frowned, stepping closer to the wall. The inscriptions shifted as she approached, as if reacting to her presence.
Then—a voice echoed from the entrance.
"Speak your purpose."
Emma inhaled sharply.
Rahi raised an eyebrow. "Well, that's ominous."
Emma hesitated, then squared her shoulders. "I seek the Topaz Stone."
Silence.
Then—the air around them trembled. The golden inscriptions flared—and the entrance sealed shut behind them.
Rahi sighed. "Of course."
The walls around them began to shift, corridors twisting and reshaping. The Labyrinth had accepted their entry.
Now, the real trial began.

The Labyrinth's Test
The air inside was thick and heavy, the walls glowing faintly with golden light.
Emma ran her fingers along the stone, feeling the energy humming beneath the surface. "This place… it's alive."
Rahi's eyes scanned their surroundings. "And it's watching us."
The corridor stretched endlessly, with no obvious path forward. No turns, no doors—just a long, silent passage.
Emma frowned. "This is supposed to be a maze, right? Where's the first choice?"
Rahi tensed. "We're already making it."
Emma followed his gaze—and her stomach dropped.
The corridor behind them was gone.
The Labyrinth wasn't giving them choices.
It was deciding for them.
Her fingers curled around the Sapphire Stone, its energy pulsing against her palm. "We need to move. Fast."
They started forward, their footsteps echoing against the stone.
Then—a whisper.
"Emma…"
She froze.
Her mother's voice.
She turned sharply—but there was nothing there.
Rahi's brow furrowed. "What?"
Emma's heart pounded. "I heard her."
Rahi's expression darkened. "The Labyrinth is playing tricks."
The whisper came again.
"This way…"
Emma's pulse raced. The voice was coming from one of the walls.
She reached out—and the stone shifted beneath her fingertips.
A hidden path opened.
Rahi grabbed her arm. "Emma, wait—"
But she stepped through.
And the passage sealed behind her.
She was alone.
