Welcome to the Game of Gods

Chapter 2: Welcome to the Game of Gods

The world had changed.

At first, everything seemed normal. The sky, once fractured, had returned to its usual blue. The city still stood, the streets still buzzed with life, and people, though shaken by the strange phenomenon, tried to move on.

But normality was an illusion.

It started with something small. A pigeon fluttered through the sky, only for a strange, grotesque bird to swoop down and devour it whole. Before anyone could react, that monstrous bird was snatched midair by an even bigger one, its feathers black and its eyes glowing red.

And then, a dragon appeared.

It wasn't the towering, mythical kind from legends, but even a small dragon was still a dragon. Its wings cast a dark shadow over the city, its golden scales gleaming in the sunlight.

Then, it opened its mouth.

ROOOAAARR!

With a single blast of fire, cars melted into puddles of steel. The streets turned into an inferno. Buildings collapsed as flames spread like a plague, consuming everything in sight.

And it wasn't alone.

More monsters emerged.

Hulking creatures, twice the size of humans, rampaged through the streets. Fanged beasts howled as they tore through helpless people. A massive serpent slithered across the roads, its body crushing anything in its path.

Panic spread. Hope vanished.

The world was ending.

And then—

A miracle happened.

---

The Birth of Legends

From atop a ruined skyscraper, a woman appeared.

She looked as if she had stepped straight out of a fantasy story—long, silver hair, piercing emerald eyes, and pointed ears. Dressed in a green cloak, she held a bow that shimmered with radiant light.

She pulled back the string, an arrow of pure energy forming between her fingers. The moment she released it, a blinding streak of light shot forward.

BOOM!

The explosion ripped through the monsters, erasing them from existence in an instant.

People gasped.

Then—two more figures appeared.

One was a man with cat-like ears and a long tail, his body radiating raw power. Next to him stood a woman of the same race, her golden eyes glowing.

In the blink of an eye, they moved.

They weren't just fast. They were faster than a Bugatti at top speed.

Their bodies blurred as they tore through the monstrous beasts with nothing but their claws, their raw strength shattering stone walls and flipping cars like toys.

Then came the final figure—a human, but not just any human.

Dressed in silver armor, his body surrounded by golden light, he gripped a massive sword. With one swing, an arc of pure energy cleaved through the dragon, splitting it in two.

In mere moments, the chaos was silenced.

The System Awakens

As the world reeled from the sudden battle, something even stranger happened.

A voice echoed in every human's mind.

[Welcome to the Game of Gods.]

Then—a screen appeared before everyone's eyes.

Glowing blue, filled with unfamiliar text, it detailed their new reality.

[All humans have awakened a System.]

[Your occupation has been assigned.]

At first, excitement filled the air. People checked their status, hoping for something powerful—something legendary.

And some got it.

A select few received incredible titles:

[Warlord]

[Supreme Witch]

[Dao of the Sword]

These people were destined for greatness.

But for most… reality was far less kind.

90% of the population was assigned minor battle or common occupations.

[Novice Soldier]

[Basic Mage]

[Small Business Owner]

[Shopkeeper]

[Farmer]

The world had become a game, but not one where everyone could play as they pleased.

The system had chosen their fates. And now, they had to live by it.

Yuji Awakens in the Unknown

Meanwhile…

In a place far from the burning cities and battles, Yuji gasped awake.

His body felt weightless, his mind foggy. When he opened his eyes, all he saw was darkness.

Where… am I?

Slowly, he pushed himself up, his hands pressing against damp grass. The air was thick—humid, almost suffocating. Insects chirped all around him, their shrill cries echoing through the unknown space.

He looked around, his heart pounding.

A dense forest stretched in every direction.

"This… isn't the city," he muttered.

A shiver ran down his spine. The towering trees loomed above, their twisted branches forming a canopy that blocked out the sun. Shadows danced between the trunks, shifting unnaturally.

Everything felt wrong.

Then, a rustling noise.

Yuji turned sharply, his body stiffening.

Something moved in the trees.

A hunched, green-skinned creature stepped into view.

A goblin.

His breath hitched.

It wasn't like the goofy, low-level monsters from games. This thing was filthy, snarling, and carrying a jagged knife. Its yellow eyes gleamed with malice as it locked onto him.

Shit…

The goblin took a step forward. Then another.

Then—more rustling.

Yuji's stomach dropped as nine more goblins emerged from the darkness, their grins widening.

They were hunting him.

---

Run.

Yuji didn't hesitate.

He turned and sprinted.

Branches slashed at his arms as he tore through the undergrowth, his breaths ragged. The goblins shrieked behind him, their footsteps pounding against the ground as they gave chase.

Faster… faster…!

He wasn't a hero. He wasn't some overpowered protagonist.

He was just a guy.

He didn't have a sword. He didn't have magic. And he sure as hell didn't have a plan.

But he had one thing—fear-fueled adrenaline.

For thirty minutes, he ran. His lungs burned, his legs screamed, but he didn't stop.

Then—his foot snagged on something.

A thick vine wrapped around his ankle, yanking him down.

"Shit—!"

He crashed onto the ground, pain shooting through his body. His hands clawed at the dirt, but before he could move—

The goblins surrounded him.

Ten of them.

Their grins widened, their weapons raised.

Yuji's chest rose and fell rapidly.

He was going to die.

This was it.

Then—

BOOM.
