A Past of Pain and Fate

Chapter 19: A Past of Pain and Fate

"I want death."

Yuji froze. That was not the response he expected to hear. He stared at Emma, his mind racing. But then, to his surprise, she laughed.

"Sorry, master. I was just joking," she said with a playful smile.

Yuji narrowed his eyes. "That's not something to joke about, Emma."

Emma sighed and stretched lazily, shifting her position on the bed. "Master, I have accepted my past. It's not a big deal anymore. What matters is the present." She looked at him and smiled gently. "But if you really want to hear about my past, then listen carefully."

Yuji remained silent, waiting for her to continue.

"The thing is, I am the daughter of the king. Yes, the current king."

Yuji's eyes widened. "You're the daughter of the king? Then how did you end up as a slave?"

She chuckled bitterly. "I'm just one of the many children he has. And more importantly, I'm an illegitimate daughter, born from a mere maid."

Yuji frowned as she continued.

"From the moment I was born, I was never considered a noble. I was treated no better than a servant—no, more like a slave. The king's other wives hated my mother and constantly abused her. And my mother... she endured it all in silence, expecting the king to protect her. But he never did. To him, she was nothing. I was nothing. Just the result of his lust."

Emma's voice was calm, but Yuji could see the pain behind her words.

"As I grew up, the king's legitimate children despised me. My eye color alone was enough reason for them to mock and abuse me. They called me a stain on the royal family and told me it would have been better if I was never born. But to the outside world, people admired my beauty. And that made them hate me even more."

She paused, taking a deep breath.

"Despite everything, I tried to form a good relationship with them. But it was impossible. The only person who ever truly loved me was my mother. But when I was fourteen, she fell ill with a deadly disease."

Her voice trembled slightly, but she forced herself to continue.

"That was the hardest part of my life. My only hope was my upcoming awakening ceremony. If I gained a strong system, I could have earned enough power and status to save my mother. But when the time came..." she laughed bitterly, "I awakened the 'Sage Guide' profession. A rare one, sure, but nobody knew anything about it. Worse, I didn't even gain a single skill from my awakening."

She clenched her fists. "With no power, no skills, and no recognition, I was worthless. And soon after, my mother died. I was left all alone in the world."

Yuji's chest tightened. He could see the pain in her eyes, even if she tried to mask it with a smile.

"Life was still barely tolerable," Emma continued, "until one day, the third princess ruined everything. She had a personal grudge against me. When a noble from another kingdom proposed to me, she took it as an insult. I had no interest in him, so I rejected him. That alone was enough for her to make my life hell."

Yuji listened intently, his anger growing with every word.

"That night, she came to my room with her guards, tied me up, and beat me. And that wasn't the end. Every night, she would find a new way to torment me. Ah..." Emma smiled, but it was a hollow smile. "Strangely enough, I got used to it."

Yuji's fists clenched. He had suffered in his life, but compared to Ariana and Emma, his pain was nothing. And yet, here they were, standing strong despite everything.

"I wanted to die," Emma admitted. "But then something happened. I received a revelation—a vision of the future. And in that future... I saw you, Master."

Yuji's breath hitched. "You saw me?"

She nodded. "Three years ago, I saw a glimpse of the future. I saw that I would meet you, and that my fate would change because of you. That's why I held on. And eventually, I was sold to a slave merchant and ended up here." She smiled. "And just as I saw, I finally met you."

Yuji was at a loss for words. None of this made sense. The world merging only happened two months ago. How did Emma see him three years ago?

"Something is wrong..." he muttered.

Emma tilted her head. "What's wrong, Master?"

Yuji looked at her seriously. "If the world merging only happened recently, how could you have seen me before it even occurred? What is really happening?"

Emma just smiled mysteriously. "I don't know, Master. But I do know one thing..." She moved closer to him, straddling his lap. "You should focus on increasing your stamina. You're going to need a lot more of it in the future."

Yuji's face twitched. "Don't joke around, Emma. This is serious."

She giggled and stood up. "I'm just telling you the truth, Master."

Then, without another word, she left the room, leaving Yuji alone with his thoughts.

He lay back on the bed, staring at the ceiling. Everything was happening too fast. The world merging, his abilities, Lyra, Ariana's revenge, and now Emma's mysterious past...

"What the hell is really going on?" he muttered.

Since this journey began, Yuji realized—this was far bigger than he had ever imagined.
