Chapter 3: Mew and the Unique Pokémon
At that moment, a pink figure floated gracefully past under the tree.
When Luke clearly saw the figure, he was so stunned that he didn't even care about the fruit in his hand, his eyes wide with shock.
"Mew, Mew?!"
A pair of big, watery eyes, the figure resembling a small pink cat with a long, flowing tail, was none other than the legendary Mythical Pokémon: Mew.
He had just decided that he wanted to meet the legendary Pokémon, and to his surprise, he encountered one right away. Not only that, but it was one of Luke's favorite Pokémon.
Could this be fate? Luke's heart was filled with joy.
As if hearing its name, Mew blinked its large eyes, its delicate body tracing a graceful arc through the air as it flew toward Luke, landing on the fruit tree to look at him.
A Riolu and a Mew stared at each other in stunned silence.
"Mew, hello!"
A soft, clear voice rang out from Mew, and its adorable eyes glanced at the fruit Luke was holding. "This fruit looks delicious. Can I try it?"
"Of course, go ahead!" Luke immediately offered the fruit to Mew. This was the legendary Mythical Pokémon from his previous world's games and anime, now standing right before him, making Luke even more excited.
Without even opening its mouth, Mew's body seemed to absorb the fruit in an instant, and in a flash, the large fruit disappeared.
"Mew, this is delicious, thank you."
Mew squinted its eyes in contentment, savoring the taste.
"No, no, you're welcome! I'm just happy you like it!" Luke immediately shifted into "fan mode."
Seemingly enjoying the fruit, Mew floated happily in the air.
The two Pokémon started chatting casually.
"Mew, your aura feels so familiar. It's like I've known you for a long time… Can I have another fruit?"
"Ah, yes, of course…"
"Mew, Pokémon like you have become so rare, almost extinct since ancient times… Ah, I want that one with the orange skin."
"Ah, yes, of course…"
"Mew, I've been traveling around the world for years, and you're the only one of your kind I've seen… Mmm, I'm full now."
"Ah, yes, of course… what??"
Luke, who had been eagerly offering the fruit, was momentarily confused.
Mew widened its big eyes and circled around Luke a few times before speaking with great certainty.
"Mew, really, you must be the only one of your kind in the world now. What's the name of this Pokémon again?"
"Riolu, or Lucario."
"Ah, yes, that name sounds so familiar, like I've heard it somewhere."
Mew placed its little paws on its head, trying hard to recall.
"Mew, forget it. I can't remember. I need to go now. See you next time."
Mew lightly floated in the air, smiling as it waved a paw. Then, with a twist of its body, it transformed into a large bird, shaking its vibrant feathers, and spread its wings to soar into the sky.
"That's the Transform move, turning into a large bird Pokémon! Truly, as a legendary Pokémon with all the genes of other Pokémon, it can change into various forms."
"Ahhhh, Mew is so cute…"
Luke gazed in awe at Mew as it transformed into a large bird and flew off into the distance. He couldn't help but feel a little envious.
However, he didn't notice that the blue gem embedded at the top of the necklace around his neck had been glowing faintly since Mew's arrival. Once Mew left, the gem returned to its dull, lifeless state.
After the awe faded, Luke still didn't notice the strange occurrence with his necklace.
Right now, he was more shocked by what Mew had said: "You're the only Riolu (Lucario) left in the world."
He vaguely recalled that in the games he played and the anime he watched in his past life, Riolu or Lucario weren't particularly rare Pokémon, but they weren't exactly common either. They certainly weren't in a state of being the last one of their kind. But if this world had never had Riolu or Lucario and Luke's transmigration had brought this new species into the world, that theory didn't quite hold up. After all, when Mew mentioned these Pokémon, it seemed to carry a nostalgic expression, suggesting that Riolu and Lucario had once existed in this world. Mew, being a legendary Pokémon from ancient times, likely knew more than anyone else.
"The only Riolu (Lucario) in the world…"
The more he thought about it, the more it felt off. Luke shuddered, a chill creeping up his spine as if some dark secret hung over the reincarnation of this species.
"Strength… I need to improve my strength. Whether it's to see more of this vast world or to face unknown crises."
Luke ultimately stuck with his decision to focus on growing stronger.
"Hic," After letting out a satisfied burp, Luke rested for a moment before preparing to set out on his journey again.
Looking around at the forest scene, which stretched endlessly in every direction, he decided to head west, hoping to find a way out of the forest and see the world beyond.
But before he could get very far, the sky began to darken.
The night in the Pokémon world was slowly descending.
The tranquil and peaceful atmosphere of the forest during the day started to feel eerie and desolate in the night. The green Caterpies, which had been leisurely munching on grass and leaves, quickly slithered into the thick jungle as the night took over.
Night in the forest fell quickly, and before Luke even realized it, the surroundings became much darker.
"I should find a place to rest."
Luke felt uneasy. As he knew, the Pokémon world had various nocturnal Pokémon, and some of them could be quite violent at night. It wasn't wise to venture out in the dark without proper safety.
For his own safety, he decided to find a high place to rest. After a brief search, he found a tree with a considerable distance from the ground. Using all four limbs, he climbed up and settled himself securely with some sturdy branches, preparing to rest.
He quietly admired the forest at night and, before long, unknowingly drifted off to sleep. Still, his mind was buzzing with thoughts: "Not bad, Riolu's fur is really warm. Looks like I won't need to buy a blanket anymore…"
...
On the other side of the forest, several cloaked figures gathered together.
"Did we get the person?" One large figure asked in a low voice.
Another figure held up a small, unconscious body by the arm. "Here it is."
"Good," the large figure nodded, his eyes filled with a hint of madness beneath the hood. "Now we don't have to worry about those two refusing. Our great 'God-Making' plan is almost complete."
The other figures shared the same excited expressions.
"Remember, everyone, this is all for... the glory of…"
"For the glory of…"
After a brief oath, the group turned and headed deeper into the forest. Their black cloaks fluttered in the moonlight, revealing a large "r" emblem on their chests.
...
The night passed without a word.
The morning sunlight filtered through the leaves, shining on Luke's face, pulling him out of his sleep.
Luke rubbed his eyes and wiped the cold sweat from his forehead with a few leaves.
He wasn't sure if it was Mew's words that had disturbed him or something else. In his dream, he saw all kinds of strange things that left him with a lingering sense of unease even after waking up.
He didn't sleep well last night.
Putting aside the dream he couldn't remember, sleeping on a tree branch felt uncomfortable, and his arms and legs were covered in mosquito bites.
Besides Pokémon, there were also regular creatures in this world. Luke had already seen common fish swimming freely in the pond, insects crawling through the forest debris, and even a few plump rabbits casually strolling past him. While Luke hadn't yet witnessed many other creatures, he could tell that the world had its share of regular animals.
This also answered one of Luke's questions about the food chain in the Pokémon world—Pokémon and humans both eat regular creatures. Pokémon might also hunt each other (like Pidgey hunting Caterpie).
"Heh."
Luke stretched, then hopped down to the ground lightly, shaking off the sleepiness. He continued his journey in the direction he had chosen.
