Chapter 10: Strange girl

The wide road was strangely silent with few people walking alongside it, each going about their own business. Occasionally, horse pulled carriages could be seen trotting by with the carriage driver blowing a whistle to alert people to steer clear of the road.

Warren city is located in the west of Auren hold, one of the more prosperous districts in the world.

The entire world was in chaos over thousands of years ago when an unknown energy suddenly invaded and exploded in their world spreading throughout the whole corners of the world like a wave, the energy travelled fast and encompassed the whole world in the blink of an eyes but continues to ripple outward for three consecutive days.

This energy caused the death of over seventy percent of the world's population destroying everything alike in a furious turret causing a prosperous age to go into decline.

After the energy has rampaged the world for three days it finally settled and the remaining people started building a refuge and repairing all that is left of the once flourishing world. As their numbers are small and they are scattered all over the world, they built small cities like refuge to live in and accepted other refugees into their camp. As the cities grew in size, they called it a district and each district will have a capital city where the ruling officials reside and where all the taxes are taken to for more development.

There are 19 known districts and places that have not been conquered or inhabited by humans are termed wastelands.

The world that was left in shambles started to recover gradually until ten years later when a disease struck causing people to grow thin and skinny gradually losing their life force as well as their sanity. The panic spread throughout the whole district that is still surviving and people have been tackling the issues since until shortly afterwards, monsters invaded again causing devastating damage and killing to fuel their insatiable bloodlust and madness. The monsters were extremely hard to kill and some are nearly impossible to kill, they leave devastating ruins in their wake whenever they appear and just like that disappear into thin air.

It was later that a group of people with extraordinary abilities showed up and fought against the monsters protecting the humans from trouble and these groups of peoples are called diviners.

Gradually, humans start to recover from their nightmares and the existence of monsters and diviners are now a common knowledge. The only problem is the sickness that struck, it was theorized that the energy that invaded the world brought along with it strange power which taints every living things, this energy fester and grows on the life force of the host which leads to the sickness so they called it the wither sickness.

Luckily, they also found a way to control the sickness which is by awakening the spark of divinity in it and merging it with their body constantly grinding it and suppressing it until eventually tamed.

Those who are able to awaken this divinity are granted extraordinary abilities and are also free from the wither sickness while this who aren't are majorly the target if the wither disease.

They cornered a tall building and walked a narrow path until they arrived at a smaller road. This road is bustling with people hurrying over and hawkers peddling their goods, you could see carriages moving along the road swiftly while some are stationed around the corner waiting for passengers.

This is the Emberfell borough, a part of the city where the district's house is located. The main district's house is located in the capital city but as there was too long a distance from each city and the capital city, the government allowed each city to have a district house overseen by government officials who reported to the headquarters every month.

"Wow, soooo busy" Olivia murmured softly as her eyes sparkling with fervor scanning the people hurrying along the road.

"Hmmm" Nyxir just nodded.

Although it might be their first time here, Nyxir has seen many more bustling than this one after all his family owns an auction house in his previous life.

They took a right turn and headed downward towards a gigantic house painted white with blue railings in the distance, the front of the house was already parked with people and nearly all of them are around the age of sixteen to seventeen years old. This is because it was discovered that the best time to unlock a divinity is the age of sixteen to seventeen when people are just entering their prime, it is also the age where the divinity starts rearing its head and would need to be suppressed quickly.

They arrived at the front of the huge building and stood among the remaining people waiting for the start of the assessment and soon, many more people joined them in the queue.

Not long after when the front of the building was already packed, a man wearing a black trench coat, a matching black pant and a round felt hat walked outside from the building, his face was slightly concealed within the shadows of the hat and strangely, you tend to forget his features the moment you move your eyes away from him.

"My name is Maric Bryne, you can just call me Maric."

" I will be doing the assessment after your awakening, you will all first be led to the celestial lake to awaken your divinity after which you will be taken to the testing ground. " Maric said in a slightly gruffy voice.

A commotion burst among the people present as many discussed animatedly among themselves.

" It's finally happening "

" I can't wait to get tested"

" Do you mean you want to skip awakening? "

" Possibly just get it over and done with"

Different discussions broke out in the surroundings and people happily chatted with each other.

"What do you think I will awaken? Will I awaken the angel's aspect?" Olivia turned to Nyxir a slight crease could be seen on her forehead and nervousness could be felt radiating from her.

She had gone from the happy confident lady a moment ago to an anxious bride waiting for a strange groom.

Nyxir looked at her and smiled, he used his right thumb to smoothen the creases on her forehead.

"You will be just fine, I think you will awaken the angel's aspect because you already look like one"

"Stop teasing me already okay?" Olivia smiled and her tensed body relaxed visibly.

"You're more beautiful when you smile " Nyxir chimed.

' Hmmm? ' Nyxir turned to the side and frowned before slowly retracting his gaze.

"Why do I have this familiar feeling from yesterday?" He muttered softly.

"What?" Olivia questioned her right brow raised slightly.

"It's nothing, I just got excited as well. Can't help it though. " Nyxir shook his head.

" Follow him to the celestial lake" Maric pointed to another man who stepped out of the building, he was donning a flowing lilac robe and his hair scattered messily over his face which was concealed with a black mask.

"Yes " the crowds thundered and everyone walked briskly behind the masked man into the building.

Nyxir also followed behind the crowd quietly observing people walking into the building with faces full of smiles.

They walked in pairs each discussing something probably not important but it showed their fervor and excitement which is plastered on their faces.

By the right corner stood a lone girl with flowing golden hair swaying behind her with every gentle step, she wore a casual black jacket and pant with a black leather shoes. Her exposed skin was tan and she walked elegantly but silently among the crowds of people. Strangely though, none of the chatting people got past five meters from her even in the chaotic parade to the celestial lake.

' Strange. How is she doing that?'

The girl suddenly turned her head over and looked at Nyxir her deep brown eyes looked like a vortex capable of drawing people in.

"What strong intuition" Nyxir panted and his body trembled slightly.

"You think it's strange to" A voice sounded behind him.
