Chapter 237: No Way Back

The underground corridor stretched ahead, dimly lit by flickering overhead bulbs. The air was thick with the stench of oil and damp concrete. Ochieng carried Marco over his shoulder, his muscles burning with the weight, but he didn't slow down.

Lin Feng moved ahead, scouting the path. Cassandra followed closely, her eyes sharp, her hand gripping a stolen pistol.

Behind them, the sounds of pursuit grew louder—heavy boots slamming against metal and voices barking orders.

"They're closing in," Cassandra warned.

Ochieng took a sharp breath. They needed to move faster.

Lin Feng skidded to a stop at a set of rusted double doors and tested the handle. Locked.

"Step aside," Ochieng muttered, setting Marco down against the wall.

He pulled out his gun and aimed at the lock.

Bang!

The door burst open. Lin Feng rushed in first, sweeping the room with his gun. "Clear!"

Ochieng dragged Marco inside, and Cassandra followed.

They had entered a massive underground tunnel, lined with abandoned maintenance vehicles and rusted pipes. The faint hum of machinery suggested the space still had power.

Cassandra wiped sweat from her brow. "Where the hell are we?"

Lin Feng checked his map. "This tunnel leads to the old subway system. If we follow it, we can surface near the city's outskirts."

Ochieng nodded. "Then let's—"

Boom!

The door behind them exploded inwards. Smoke. Shouts. Flashlights cutting through the darkness.

Veyron's men had arrived.

"Move!" Lin Feng yelled.

Ochieng grabbed Marco again, his legs straining as he sprinted into the tunnel. Gunfire erupted behind them, bullets ricocheting off the metal walls.

Lin Feng and Cassandra fired back, keeping the enemy at bay.

Ochieng's pulse pounded. They had to escape.

And then—

A train horn.

A distant rumble.

Cassandra's eyes widened. "There's an active train line down here?"

Ochieng glanced ahead. A pair of headlights pierced through the darkness.

Lin Feng grinned. "We might just have our ride out."

But could they reach it before the enemy closed in?
