Chapter 10: The Roadblock

Mia's heart was racing as she looked out the window, trying to see what was causing the roadblock. The darkness seemed to swallow everything, and she couldn't make out any details.

Sophia's voice was calm and steady. "We need to get out of here, now."

Ethan nodded, already opening the door. "I'll check it out," he said.

Mia felt a surge of fear. What if something happened to Ethan? What if they were trapped?

As Ethan got out of the car, Mia watched anxiously. He walked towards the roadblock, his eyes scanning the area.

Suddenly, he stopped and turned back to the car. "It's not just a roadblock," he said, his voice low. "There are people here. And they're not friendly."

Mia's heart skipped a beat. Who were these people? And what did they want?

Sophia's expression was grim. "We need to get out of here, now. We can't let them surround us."

Mia felt a sense of panic rising up inside her. What were they going to do?

As they quickly got out of the car, Mia saw that Sophia had a plan. She led them through a small gap in the trees, and they began to make their way through the forest.

The darkness seemed to swallow them whole, and Mia stumbled over roots and branches. She was scared, but she knew she had to keep moving.

As they walked, Mia heard the sound of footsteps behind them. She turned to look, but Sophia grabbed her arm.

"Don't look back," Sophia said, her voice low. "We need to keep moving."

Mia nodded, feeling a sense of determination rising up inside her. She was going to get through this, no matter what.

As they walked, the forest seemed to grow denser. The trees seemed to close in around them, and Mia felt a sense of claustrophobia.

But Sophia seemed to know where she was going. She led them through the forest, her eyes fixed on some point in the distance.

Mia followed, her heart pounding in her chest. She didn't know what was happening, but she knew she had to trust Sophia.

As they walked, the forest began to thin out. Mia saw a glimmer of light in the distance, and she felt a sense of hope rising up inside her.

Maybe they were going to make it after all.

But as they emerged from the forest, Mia saw that they were standing at the edge of a cliff. The drop was steep, and the wind was howling.

Sophia turned to her, her eyes locked on Mia's. "We need to jump," she said.

Mia felt a surge of fear. Jump? Was Sophia crazy?

But before she could say anything, Sophia grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the edge of the cliff.

Mia felt a sense of weightlessness, and then she was falling. The wind rushed past her, and she felt a sense of exhilaration mixed with fear.

As she landed with a thud, Mia felt a sense of relief wash over her. They had made it.

But as she looked up, Mia saw that they were not alone. There were people standing on the edge of the cliff, their eyes fixed on her.

Mia felt a sense of fear rising up inside her. Who were these people? And what did they want?

Sophia's voice was calm and steady. "Don't worry," she said. "We're safe now."

But Mia wasn't so sure. She looked up at Sophia, her eyes searching for answers.
