A new maid?

Leyla clenched her jaw, staring at the revealing maid uniforms. There's no way I'm wearing this… but she didn't have a choice.

Her baggy clothes would give her away instantly—she couldn't pose as a guard, and sneaking around forever wasn't an option.

With a frustrated sigh, she grabbed the least revealing uniform she could find. It was still shorter than she liked, hugging her waist too much, but at least it wasn't as bad as the others.

💭 I swear, if I survive this, I'm burning this dress.

She quickly tied her hair into a neat bun, adjusting the small apron around her waist. Now, just act normal.

Taking a deep breath, she stepped out of the room, pretending like she belonged.

The hallways were still quiet—too quiet.

"Hey, who are you?"

Leyla quickly lowered her head, adjusting her mask. "I… I'm new here."

The guard raised an eyebrow. "New? I wasn't informed."

Leyla faked a nervous laugh. "I… I got hired today. Just a small maid job."

The guard crossed his arms. "Alright, then. Take this to the boss." He pointed at a tray of tea and snacks.

Leyla stiffened.

"You want me to take this… to Ozan?" she asked hesitantly.

The guard smirked. "Yeah. Don't tell me you're scared of him."

Leyla quickly nodded, trying to play along. "O-of course I am! He's terrifying."

The guard laughed, shaking his head. "First time I've heard a maid say that. Usually, they all have a crush on him."

Leyla felt disgusted but forced a smile. "I'm… different."

The guard narrowed his eyes. "Or maybe… there's another reason you don't want to face him?"

Leyla's heart skipped a beat.

Had she just made a mistake?

"You're really something, huh? Alright, no need to be scared. I'll take the tray for you."

Leyla exhaled in relief but kept her expression neutral. "Thanks… um, what's your name?"

"Ali," he replied, looking amused. "And yours?"

Leyla hesitated before answering, "Ayla." It was a fake name, of course.

Ali chuckled. "Well, Ayla, I don't think you'll last long here if you're scared of Ozan."

Leyla forced a small smile. "Yeah, I'm starting to realize that."

For some reason, Ali found her interesting. Unlike the other maids, who either feared Ozan or admired him, this girl seemed… different.

Maybe he'd keep an eye on her.

And maybe, just maybe, she would need his help soon.
