The female knight took a few cautious steps back, gripping her sword tightly as she glared at Han. "You foul demon! What kind of evil sorcery is this?! What tricks are you playing on me?!"
Her voice echoed through the empty alleyway, sharp with suspicion. Han, however, simply let out a long sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Do you not see this halo above my head?" he asked, pointing at the glowing ring floating just above him. "I'm not a demon. You've completely misunderstood."
Seraphina narrowed her piercing green eyes, scanning him from head to toe. His small stature, crimson wings, and childish face certainly didn't look demonic, but that didn't mean she was ready to let her guard down.
"Then what are you?" she demanded, not lowering her sword.
Han straightened his tiny frame, puffing out his chest with whatever dignity he could muster. "I am a Cupid, tasked with matching you with your fated love."
For a moment, there was silence. Then—
"Hah!" Seraphina let out a short, mocking laugh. "You really expect me to believe that? What kind of fool do you take me for?"
She crossed her arms, still gripping her sword tightly, as she sized him up. "I'm a knight. My only duty is to my sword and my kingdom. I don't need love. Even if what you're saying is true, I don't care. I have no time for something as foolish as romance."
Han groaned, rubbing his temples. "Haa… what kind of trouble have I gotten myself into?"
He took a deep breath before looking back up at her. "Listen, I don't have a choice in this either. Just let me follow you for a few days." He spread his arms to gesture at himself. "Besides, have you noticed that your sword just went straight through me? You can't even hurt me, so what's the point in resisting?"
Seraphina tensed at his words. She glanced down at her sword, still gripped in her hand, then back at him. She hated to admit it, but he was right. No matter how much she wanted to reject this nonsense, if he was truly an intangible being, there was nothing she could do to get rid of him.
"...Fine," she muttered, sheathing her sword. "It's not like I can even do anything about it." Then, she shot him a sharp look. "But I'm telling you now, the only thing you'll be doing is wasting your time. There is no way that I am ever going to fall in love."
Han smirked. "Yeah, yeah. You keep telling yourself that."
She glared at him but chose not to respond, instead turning back toward the palace. Han floated beside her, flapping his tiny wings.
After a few moments of silence, he decided to break the tension. "Hey, wouldn't it be better if we introduced ourselves properly? Just so we know how to address each other?"
Seraphina glanced at him before sighing. "Fine. My name is Seraphina Vale. I'm a knight of the Ironwood Guard and the daughter of a former knight. My father served in the royal army before retiring due to injury."
Han blinked. "Well, there was no need for that much detail."
Seraphina frowned. "Excuse me?"
Han waved her off. "Whatever. I'm Han Seohan, and I just became a Cupid."
Seraphina seemed displeased by his response but chose to keep quiet. Without another word, the two continued their walk toward the palace.
The quiet night air surrounded them, the only sound being the distant rustling of leaves and the soft tapping of Seraphina's boots against the stone path. Han glanced up at the sky, his tiny wings fluttering as he thought to himself—just how hard was this matchmaking task really going to be?
