Season 1: Rise of the Villain
Episode 24: A Glimpse of Peace
The drive away from the chateau was silent, except for the hum of the engine cutting through the cold night air. Damien sat in the back seat, his gaze locked on Elena, who had fallen asleep against Isabella's side.
The war was over—for now.
Salazar was dead. His empire had crumbled. Elena was safe.
But Damien knew better than to believe in fairy tales. Peace was an illusion. And in his world, it never lasted long.
They arrived at a secluded cabin deep in the French countryside. Jean had arranged it as a temporary hideout, far away from prying eyes.
"We lay low here," Jean instructed. "The authorities will be looking for answers after what happened at the chateau. But if we stay off the grid, they won't find us."
Damien didn't care about the authorities. His focus was on Elena.
She had been quiet ever since they left. He wasn't sure if it was fear, exhaustion, or something else.
As they settled in, Isabella sat beside her on the worn-out couch. "Are you hungry?"
Elena shook her head.
Damien knelt in front of her. "Do you want to talk?"
She didn't answer right away. Then, in a small voice, she asked, "Are you going to leave again?"
The question hit Damien harder than any bullet ever had.
He had been absent for her entire life, unaware she even existed. But now that he knew… he couldn't just walk away.
"No," he said firmly. "I'm not going anywhere."
Elena studied him carefully, as if deciding whether to believe him.
Finally, she whispered, "Okay."
Later that night, Damien stepped outside, the cold air biting against his skin.
Nikolai was already there, smoking a cigarette. "You look like a man who just realized he's in over his head."
Damien exhaled. "I don't know how to do this."
"Do what?"
"Be a father."
Nikolai chuckled. "You just killed half of Paris to save her. That's a good start."
Damien didn't smile. "What if I'm no good for her?"
Nikolai took a slow drag before answering. "She's a kid. She doesn't care about your past. She just cares that you're here."
Damien wasn't sure if it was that simple.
His enemies wouldn't stop just because he wanted to change. His past wouldn't vanish overnight.
But looking back through the cabin window, watching Elena curled up with Isabella, Damien made a silent promise.
Whatever it took, he would protect her.
He had spent his life as a villain. But for Elena?
Maybe, just maybe, he could be something else.
