CHAPTER 15:A Web of Loes

Mei Li stared at the proposal for the merger, her heart racing with excitement. The figures looked impressive, the projections even better. This was the kind of deal that could elevate her status in the company—something she could wave in front of Mr. Lin to further secure her place. She didn't question where it came from. In her mind, it was a stroke of luck, another step in her rise to power.

She rushed to Madam Lin's study, practically glowing with pride. "Mother, you need to see this," she said, laying the document on the table. "I think this is the move we've been waiting for."

Madam Lin glanced through the papers, her eyes lighting up with interest. "This is very promising… where did you find it?"

"It was in the Priority Review folder on your desk this morning. I assume it came from one of the executives," Mei Li replied confidently. "If we act fast, we could take full credit before Mei Xing even notices."

A subtle smirk curved Madam Lin's lips. "Good. Prepare a presentation for your father. We'll bring it up at the next board meeting."

Just as Mei Xing had predicted.

Back at her own office, Mei Xing kept an eye on every development. Secretary Wu updated her discreetly—Madam Lin had approved the proposal, and Mei Li was preparing a detailed presentation to pitch it as her own idea. Everything was falling into place.

Later that day, Mei Xing and Zhao Chen met in a quiet parking basement where they wouldn't draw attention.

"They took the bait," she told him, showing him the text from Secretary Wu.

Zhao Chen nodded. "Then it's time for phase two."

Mei Xing handed him a second file—a comparison between the dummy proposal and real, accurate reports about YunTech, clearly exposing the fake figures and manipulated data.

"We'll reveal this during the board meeting," she said. "Right after Mei Li presents it."

Zhao Chen laughed under his breath. "They won't know what hit them."

But as they finalized their plans, something stirred uneasily in Mei Xing's chest. There was a sense that things were escalating too fast. And a part of her feared Madam Lin wouldn't go down so easily.

Her instinct proved right that evening.

She returned to her room to find it slightly disturbed. Her drawers weren't in the same order, her wardrobe slightly ajar.

Someone had searched her space.

She checked her secure folder—nothing had been taken. But that wasn't the point.

Someone suspected her.

And someone was watching.

She didn't know whether it was Mei Li or Madam Lin, but one thing was clear—the web of lies she'd begun untangling was far more dangerous than she thought.

Every step forward now had to be measured, precise, and guarded.

Because in this house… every whisper echoed, and every shadow hid a pair of eyes.
