Chapter 3 — I'm The Demon King

Quinn took a deep breath as he was trying to understand what Morgana had been explaining to him, about the histories and the events that took place over the past 600 years and beyond. It was pretty funny how she thought he had lost his memories — and he wanted to keep it that way.

The last Demon King was tall, with horns pointing upwards, and his feet were replaced with hooves whilst a swaying tail dangled behind him. His teeth were designed with fangs, and his ears were shaped like leaves.

And now, comparing what he remembered from the Demon King's memories and his, it was contrasting. He wasn't even tall, just an average teenager with dirty blond hair that was tousled, bright blue eyes and tanned skin. His physique was lean, making him the complete opposite of terrifying. He looked as much human as though he wasn't a Demon King. And yet, he was reincarnated as the Demon King, or at least that's what the System told him. It made no sense really.

As for the world of Pandora, he finally understand that it was divided into ten kingdoms, that were divided by what were known as Gates. And out of these ten kingdoms, they had at one time managed to claim at least three of four kingdoms outside theirs. But when the other kingdoms had joined forces, the Demon Army was defeated which forced the former Demon King into hiding....or he called it slumber. Assuring that his people that he was going to scout for answers, for a solution for their troubles.

At least Quinn got the understanding he needed...but it wasn't enough. There were still many gaps in his mind, and the System wanted him to Assert Dominance. But how was he going to do that, now that he has a sickly body. He wanted the kingdom, he wanted to rule the least.

But for the day, he hardly got the chance to see any more demons than those he had. There was a set of rules as to why: many of them had gone for war, war against the humans of Gran'le who were taking charge against demons. This felt like a responsibility for him to handle, once he had made his approval in the presence of the Council.

Later that night, Morgana led him to a suitable sleeping chamber that had a jacuzzi inside of it, a large bed and the walls were adorned with jewels and gold and special rubies that glowed. This was unlike Tokyo, that had lights. This was more beautiful.

And when he had gone to sleep, he came across something that really caught his attention, even if he was stuck in a state of slumber.

«[ Transporting Host ]»

Quinn's eyes snapped open, but he wasn't in his bed anymore. He was floating in a dark, eerie space. A figure emerged from the shadows, its presence making his skin crawl. The figure had six glowing red eyes, and its voice sent shivers down Quinn's spine.

«[ Host Transported Safely ]»

Quinn tried to move, but his body felt heavy, as if rooted to the spot. The figure began to speak, its voice dripping with disappointment. "And here I thought I picked someone better from the Outside World... This can't be... This weak, sickly mundane..." The figure's growl sent a chill down Quinn's spine. "I've led my own people to hell."

Quinn's eyes widened as he realized the truth. "Wait... don't tell me you're the one who brought me here!?"

The figure chuckled, a dry, icy sound. "Well... I did bring you here... but I think there had to be an accident during the Summoning spell... I intended to bring someone suitable, not... you." His mind raced as the figure continued...but he was also angry about being brought here. He didn't remember anything of this sort being his wish. "But it's already done, and there's nothing I can do to change that."

Quinn's voice shook. "I want you to take me back home... Your freaking demons look like they're going to eat me alive!"

The figure's laughter was like a cold breeze. "They're demons, after all... what do you expect?"

Quinn's eyes flashed with anger. "Angels? Pretty faces and wings?"

The figure chuckled again. "I don't have all the time in the world, kid... listen carefully... I've summoned you here because I failed my kingdom... and it is you who I want to become my successor."

Quinn's eyes widened in horror. "I'm human."

The figure's voice was dismissive. "That's not an issue. I can fix that... I can make you reek like me... change your mundane scent into something more wicked."

Quinn's voice was firm. "I love my scent."

The figure's expression turned serious. "But we don't have time for that... not yet. There's a lot you need to learn, to know... and there are a lot of battles you've got to win... battles I couldn't."

"And you think I'm the right candidate for the job?" Quinn asked.

The figure grinned, revealing a set of sharp teeth. "You're a joke....but I believe with something like you, there could be a difference."

"A difference?"

"Yes." The figure said. "For starters, I want you to defeat Gran'le....bring it under our reign."

«[ New Mission: Defeat Gran'le]»

"And what if I can't?" Quinn asked.

The figure sighed. "You must!"

"How?" Quinn asked.

"You'll figure it out. The more you train, the more stronger you'll become." The figure said. "And so will your spells. You'll be carried to the Council, and it's your biggest responsibility to assert dominance if you want to become their leader. Demons have a thing for power."

«[ System Alert: Transporting Host to the Council in 10...9...8...7... ]»

Quinn's eyes widened in panic. "I don't think I have enough power to do that...I'm weak as fuc..."

The countdown continued: «[ 3...2...1...]»

A jolt of electricity shot through Quinn's veins, and everything changed. He fluttered his eyes open, sweat dripping down his skin a little. He wasn't in the room he had been in earlier, but he was standing in front of a pair of large doors. He stumbled backwards, unable to believe this.

"How did I get here? Was it a dream?" Quinn wondered.

«[ Assert Dominance ]»

Quinn felt his insides twisting. It didn't take long for him fo start hearing voices behind the doors, arguing and shouting. He took a deep breath, staring at the black doors that looked like they had been forged with scales. 'i can do this...' he reminded himself. This world.... everything...it's just like in the games, right? He chuckled.

«[ Hint: the Demon King ruled with ruthlessness. Asserting dominance requires ruthlessness! ]»

Really now?

He took a deep breath, before his hands met with the black doors. Without even trying, the swung on their own and he slipped into the Council room. His heart stopped beating for a moment, as he stared at the large, stone chairs that were aligned around a stone table.

*

Inside the Council room, there were four demons that were sitting, each on their respective chairs. Out of all these, there was one that was sitting, leaning his arm against the armrest, his fingers flinging a knife. His wild hair fell down his face, a few cutting past his eye whilst the rest fell down his shoulders like a waterfall of fire. He had been sitting in the Council for quite a while now, and he was slowly starting to get bored. The Kingdom hadn't been offering anything interesting, to make it worse they've all been failing....not after the demon king fled from his own failures. 'I want something more interesting....' He thought, silently staring at the others.

"I heard a rumor that the King's tomb was opened and his coffin was empty." The other demons said, his mane falling down his back, where it was held by a ribbon. His eyes were like tongues of fire, small horns growing out of his forehead. He was still young, too young to be sitting in the Small Council. Maybe he was just representing his old father, who was just gonna die anytime now from old age.

"I also heard the same rumor...but I don't know...I just don't feel like there's a hint of truth in it..." The other demon said, his bold head sparkling as if oiled. He didn't have horns, but his ears were still arched.... His eyes were pretty slitted, like a serpent's. "...if the King is back, where is he? In hiding? Not after what he did to us...he deserves to be in trial!"

Still sitting in the room, on the other side, there she was. A brilliant demon, with a mane of hair as bright as starlight. Her eyes sparkled, a fair shade of violet that went with the translucent scales on her temples that also sparkled with every motion. She was pretty much the youngest demon in the room, and perhaps one of the smartest. She hardly spoke, only assessing in silence.

"Isn't there anything interesting you'd like us to talk about? Something about how we can go and attack the humans who are settled in Gran'le, cutting through the boarders....destroy their shelters, spill out their blood and something more more wicked .." He said, stopping with the flipping of his knife. All eyes met him, and he smirked. "....I want something fun, not to just sit around like some faggot waiting for a dick!"

"We can't attack now...." The bold demon said. "....our numbers are already dwindling...we need to at least regroup first, then think of something strategic."

"Like hiding in caves, in mountains?" He asked. "Clearly, you all must be out of your freaking minds!"

The young demon grinned where he sat, "Maybe Cal is right. What if we just attack every town near the Gate? We have all the power in our hands..."

"That's absurd...." The bold demon said. "...we can't do anything rush."

"Well, if you guys aren't going to join me....then, I'll just do it on my own...." Cal said, tightening his grip on the knife. Between his fingers, he felt the knife melt, dripping and plopping on the surface of the stone table. ".... I'm by far most the strongest member of the Small Council, anyways."

Just then, the doors swung open....the large doors that sealed the Council chamber and he quickly diverted his attention to the entrance. Who could have been so brave enough, not infiltrate the council meeting? Not without any visitation?

Cal's eyes widened in awe as he stared at the boy who had just walked in. He was average height, with dirty blond hair and features that looked as human as they could be. His eyes were a bright, adorable blue, and his lips curled into a charming grin. He wore a black coat that draped down, spreading like a pair of dark wings as he walked. Cal's gaze snapped back to reality, and he sneered. "And who the fuck are you?"

The boy scratched the back of his head, a drop of sweat falling down his forehead. "Uhm, I'm... your demon king?"

The room fell silent, with all eyes fixed on the boy. Cal's expression twisted in disgust. "You? The Demon King? Don't make me laugh."

The other demons exchanged skeptical glances. The bold demon spoke up, "You're a human. What makes you think you're the Demon King?"

Quinn's grin faltered, but he stood his ground. "I... I don't know. I just know that I am. And I'm here to take my rightful place."

Cal snorted. "Rightful place? You're not even a demon. You're just a weak, pathetic human."

Quinn's eyes flashed with a bitter sternness, but he kept his cool. "I may not look like a demon, but I assure you, I am the Demon King. And I will prove it to you."

"How?" the young demon said, his tone stained with mockery.

The young demon's mocking tone hung in the air, but before he could utter another word, Quinn's voice dropped to a whisper. "Presence of the Demon King..."

Cal's eyes narrowed, his gaze intensifying as he stared at Quinn. But in an instant, his expression changed. A flicker of fear danced across his face, and his eyes widened in terror.

It started without warning. Cal felt himself being drawn into a void, as if an unseen force was pulling him toward Quinn. He was frozen in place, unable to move a limb, his eyes locked on the figure before him.

For a moment, he saw it. A figure with six glowing eyes, its face twisted into a wicked grin. The eyes seemed to burn with an inner fire, and Cal felt his very soul being pierced by their gaze.

The figure laughed, a sound that was both menacing and mesmerizing. Cal's mind reeled, unable to comprehend what was happening.

And then, it vanished.

Cal gasped, his chest heaving as he stumbled backward. His eyes darted wildly around the room, but the other demons were similarly affected, their faces pale and frightened. The same experience had been shared by all, leaving them stunned and bewildered.

Cal's voice trembled, his words barely audible. "W-what...the fuck...are you?"

Quinn smirked. "I'm the Demon King."
