Dorm Room

Ren walked into the academy with unhurried steps, Lucian's secretary still trailing after him. He was fully aware of the gazes on him.

I feel like a pet monkey in a zoo.

He wondered if they were staring because of his appearance or rather because of his family name,

[Because of your family name.]

Oh, okay that made more sense.

As he moved through the academy grounds, the whispers around him only grew louder.

"Who is he?"

"He's handsome."

"Keep your voice down, I hear he's with the Mordaine family."

"The Mordaine family? The mafia rulers?"

He left out a small soft breath, amusement flickering in his eyes. They all looked like headless chicken without a direction.

Well, their curiosity was expected.

The Mordaine family were legends. They were the wealthiest, and most powerful force in the underworld and in the above world. People feared and respected them, they also wished to be them.

And for Ren to walk in wearing their name?

Yeah that was enough to send shockwaves throughout the academy.

He like it though.

Makes his tasks way more easy.

The academy was very large, it was built like an ancient fortress fused with modern architecture. Towering building loomed in the distance, most were connected by wide bridges and marble pathways.

It looked like a battleground.

His vision blurred for a moment, replacing what he saw with stained ground full of bloods and corpses littered everywhere.

He shook his head.

What was that?

Pushing away the slight incident, he made his way towards the main hall, not before collecting his luggage and sending the secretary away. The main hall was where all new students were required to register.

The hall was massive, its high ceiling adorned with floating crystals chandeliers. Rows of counters stretched across the room, each manned by academy officials processing student entries.

Ren stepped forward, and immediately the clerk at the counter straightened.

"Name?" She asked, though her voice had a slight tremor.

He smiled. "Aaron Mordaine."

The moment he spoke, a wave of silence spread through the area closest to where Ren stood.

The students in the line stiffened.

The clerk's hands faltered slightly.

The clerk swallowed while Ren looked like he didn't know what he had done.

She quickly typed into the system, "Ah y-yes, welcome to the academy. Your dorm assignment and class schedule have been prepared."

She handed him a small device, and a sleek metallic card.

"This is your student ID." She explained pointing to the card, "It will grant you access to restricted areas based on your clearance level. Your dormitory is located in the top-ranked sector."

Aaron nodded, then pointed at the small device that looked like a strap on bracelet.

The clerk nodded then explained, "So this device contains the amount of points you deposited into the bracelet, this can be done to star coins or winning fights and going on missions, points are used to purchase things in the academy."

Oh. Convenient.

He handed the clerk his black card, "can you withdraw one-third of the amount in there and turn it to star points?"

The clerk's hand shook as she accepted the card, staring at the account balance she swallowed, then did as she was instructed before returning the card back to him.

Aaron took his card back and then nodded. "Thank You."

As he turned, he saw a group of students watching him from a distant, looking at the insignias on their uniforms, Ren recognized them instantly.

They were the top factions in the academy. Building factions in the academy was normal and almost all students were in one.

It seemed his arrival hadn't gone unnoticed by them.

Ren arrived at his assigned dorm; a towering structure reserved for the best.

It looked like the academy separated students based on their family's powers.

Inside the halls were lined with polished marbles, and the rooms were far more extravagant than what a normal student would get.

Being a Mordaine came with privileges.

He swiped his student ID against the door panel, and with a soft chime, the lock disengaged.

The room inside was spacious, furnished with luxury furniture and a wide window overlooking the academy.

Ren dropped his luggage on the floor, and his bag on the couch, exhaling softly.

Finally.

Alone.

For the first time since arriving, he allowed himself to relax just slightly.

He knew this peace wouldn't last long though.

There would be tests, challenges, and enemies waiting for him.

Besides he felt like time was running out and he needed to get something done, what it was exactly he didn't remember and that was eating him insides.

But that was fine, he'd figure it out before anything chaotic happened.

And if he couldn't, he thrived in chaos.
