The Fall of a Family

Chapter 3:

Hours later, Darius arrived at the capital, expecting to see his wife and sons. Instead, what he found was devastation—his children, unconscious in the dirt, and no sign of his beloved Evelyn.

"Krish! Kishore! What happened?!" he cried, shaking his eldest son awake.

Tears poured down Krish's face. "Dad… Mom… she's gone… the beast… it ate her!"

Darius felt his world collapse. His strong, kind wife—devoured in front of their children. The pain in his heart was unbearable.

But fate was merciless.

The Royal Palace soon delivered another crushing blow. They stripped him of his job and rank, for his employment had been a favor granted because of his wife's healing prowess. Now that she was gone, so was his worth to them.

A high-ranking fire mage, A-rank Veyron, delivered the message with cruel amusement.

"Darius, you were nothing without your wife. Now, you're nothing at all."

The grieving father clenched his fists, fury boiling inside him.

"You dare… after all she sacrificed?!" he growled.

Veyron sneered. "Oh? Did I touch a nerve?" With a flick of his wrist, he sent a fireball hurling toward Darius, who barely dodged, landing painfully on the ground.

Krish ran forward, biting Veyron's leg in desperation.

Veyron kicked him aside. "Filthy brats like you should learn your place."

Darius, helpless and humiliated, could only beg for mercy.

Veyron laughed. "Pathetic." He left them broken, bruised, and abandoned.

Chapter 4: The Birth of Darkness

Hunger gnawed at them. Darius, once a proud warrior, struggled to feed his children. Desperation forced him into the depths of Verdant Hollow Forest, hunting for food despite knowing the dangers.

Krish, meanwhile, begged in the streets, only to be kicked and mocked.

The world had truly abandoned them.

But fate was not done yet.

Deep in the forest, as Darius faced yet another magical beast, he found himself cornered. Blood dripped from his wounds. His body trembled. His vision blurred.

"Is this… how it ends?" he thought, closing his eyes.

Then, something inside him awoke.

A black fog engulfed his body. The pain faded. His breathing steadied. His muscles filled with untapped strength.

His eyes snapped open, glowing a deep, menacing black.

The beast lunged—but before it could strike, Darius swung his arm, slicing the monster clean in half without even touching a weapon.

Silence.

For the first time, a new power had been born.

End of Chapter 4
