Chapter 9: Magic

I am stunned. Does he know magic? Magic is just some scientific illusions. However, I never understood one part of magic-how can someone disappear into thin air?-I used to think that there were some kind of internal connections to that box.

Now to think someone can spy on me is bizarre. He has some tricks up his sleeves, and I have to figure out what it is. I am sure I will get more tangled in things this way, but to think that someone can watch over me without my knowledge is enough to motivate me.

"I did not think I would encounter them, I was just taking the route to avoid you," I say.

He does not give a reply and focuses on the class. Who does he think he is to avoid me like that?

He did mention that our talk was not being recorded so I thought he was up for some talking. I was dumbfounded.

The class continues. We have started calculus. This year is going to be rough, teachers are starting with the most trickiest and difficult chapters at the beginning of the year.

I solve the math in one go. Maths is never my cup of tea but I have to be good at it if I want to be a neuroscientist someday. Hence, I practiced a lot during the break we got before the start of a new academic year. I can solve the problem with ease for now.

It is just the beginning of Integration, but I am pretty sure it will come to haunt me someday. I struggle with definite integrals and complex partial integrations. I think that is what it is called.

The class is over. I do not run from it anymore, I decide to face it now. Mainly after the incident of someone knowing my secret moves, I feel more motivated than anybody in the classroom to know what are the secrets behind those dead eyes.

To my shock, he leaves me without a notice. This is amusing. This stalker… went as far as disrespecting my privacy to just leave without an explanation. Who is this guy?

Chelsea approaches me. She seems upset, but I do not blame her. She has always been by my side through thick and thin. If I ever need to certify a true friend, I will say it is her. She made my entire school journey to date so much easier.

"I am sorry, Chelsea. I know an apology would not be enough of an explanation for my attitude earlier. Just know there are some reasons I am doing it, and I am sorry for it. I do not want to make it sound like an excuse," I say softly.

I would have given up all my school years and achievements to save this friend. However, I cannot blame her for this.

At the end of the day, it is the actions that define a person.

Being swayed by some sweet talks seems naive.

"It's okay, Rin! I understand. Let us go to our Physics class now. It is the last class before recess anyway," she says.

"You are an angel sent from heaven Chelsea, do you know that?" I say.

She smiles. I am grateful.

Now that I noticed Lucifer, Aurelius, and Elara all left. We are the last two with a couple of other classmates to leave the class.

Elara, the girl that had so many questions left the class without any trouble.

"I have a request," Chelsea says.

"What?" I ask.

"Do not mix with the new group, and keep your distance from Carlen," she says in a way to warn me.

That time I understood, Chelsea talked with them when I left the Chemistry class early. I wonder what they talked about.

"Why?" I ask.

"They are not the type you should mix with," she gives me a vague reason.

I am a very rational-minded person so you can assume that I would not go by any rules or warnings unless it makes sense to me. This has affected me in both ways. It makes me a good debater, but prone to be called "argumentative" to the point people do not talk with me.

I agree with things that make sense to me.

That is a bittersweet trade to have.

"I will think about it," I say to her honestly. I do not get pursued by people no matter how close they are. However, right now I can fight against the world for her. If she is saying this, there is a better explanation for it. Something she is not providing me right now...

Or… rather… something she does not want me to get my hands into.
