Chapter 14: His smile

I fail to recall the last time I felt so at peace. Though we are 'dating,' he is not getting close to the point where I feel uncomfortable. 

We are done eating, so I get up. It is past 10 minutes since recess. Thankfully, we have Literature in the Avalon building. However, it is on the 2nd floor, and we are on the terrace. So, it will take a good 15 minutes to get there. If we rush, maybe 5-10 minutes, I am not sure. 

I go near the door of the terrace, I try to open it. It is locked. Are we locked on the terrace? 

He comes towards me, his expression tells me that even he did not anticipate this to happen. Someone locked us up here. 

"How many people knew that we were up here?" I ask. 

I want to know if he got betrayed by the person who permitted him to use the terrace. 

"Hmm… I did not use a third person for this, only you knew," he replies. 

Oh so he did not take any permission, he just used his illusion magic to trick the guards on the way to the terrace. 

"Um, how are we supposed to get down?" I ask. 

"Let's jump off the terrace," he says. 

Yes, he finally lost it, but he goes near the edge of the terrace. Wait a second, is he serious about jumping from here? Huh?

He is waiting for me.

"Are you seriously going to jump off of a 6-storey building? Do you wish to die?" I ask furiously. 

He does not reply.

"Well go ahead, unlike you, I do not wish to die with you. I should be stuck in here. There is someone behind this, so the person will more likely visit this place anyway," I say. 

He does not budge, he is still waiting for me near the edge of the terrace to jump. However, he puts up his hand and points it to me. He is meaning me to grab his hand, and jump off the terrace. I do not think that he is going to leave me here alone. 

He did give me non-poisonous food, and never meant to hurt from the morning. However, is it enough to trust him with this jump? I am sure he has some tricks to do it, maybe defying gravity is also one of his tricks. 

I do not have many options it is either I stay up here and get caught when the security checks the terrace near twilight or I jump off of this building with this man I just met today. 

Well, I do not assume him to be my boyfriend or anything. I am pretty sure he does not even know what is a boyfriend. 

If someone is to find me here, I am sure to get myself into more trouble with rumors spreading around. Heck, I might even get bullied for it. I have avoided being bullied by just avoiding the bullies, you can always sense the most insecure person in the class. Those people are typically the people who bully others. 

Whenever I get myself into that situation, I remain quiet until they try to harm me. I am not afraid of bullying, but I avoid the drama. The thing that I am most afraid of is my reputation, I am an adopted child. If I get caught here, my legal guardians are sure to hear about this. 

I do not want them to get in trouble because of me. They have already been generous enough to provide me with a formal education and provide me a lovely family. I do not wish to upset them. 

I take his hand thinking about them, it is a leap of faith. It is a gamble, I do not know this man but he has done nothing wrong to threaten my life. I close my eyes, I do not wish to see the ground. 

"It's gonna be fine," he whispers to my ears. For some uncanny reason, that soothes me. Just hearing that everything is going to be okay even though we are at the edge of a six-storey building, I am calm. 

Calm for a person who is now jumping off the building. He takes me up in his arms, my skin is burning. My eyes are still closed, but I am somewhat grateful. For now, I do not dare to voluntarily jump off of a building with my two legs. It is not something I have done before. 

"Thank you," I say.

We take a jump off the building, but it is as if the time has stopped for us. I cannot feel the speed accelerating, I do not feel the gravity. I refuse to open my eyes. 

We hit the ground without a scratch. I open my eyes, he lets me down immediately. Though there are no physical wounds, I see him exhausted. He used too much of his energy for a day I think. 

He is barely standing on his two feet, I do not know what happened during the jump. 

"Chelsea…it was Chelsea who locked us up there," he says half-breathing. 

"We need to go back to the class first, you need some rest, we will discuss this later," I say to him. I pat his shoulder, and my touch healed him up. 

"Do I have healing abilities?" I ask him.

"Well, I think so, your powers have potential but they are uncontrollable, let's get back. Be careful of Chelsea, ma'am. I saw her through the window while we took the jump, on the 2nd floor. She was directly looking at you as if she was expecting it to happen," he says. 

"I understand, let's go back to class first Carlen. Also, you can call me Rin, I prefer not to be called either ma'am or my lady," I say. 

He breaks into a smile. It is my first time seeing him smile, it is so pure.
