[Chapter 10: Fast and Furious]
After hanging up the phone, Ian waited quietly below.
Moments later, Kate Beckinsale appeared at the bottom of the stairs. She wore a wide-brimmed hat and looked around until she spotted Ian in the Porsche.
He waved at her.
Kate approached the car, looking at him, "What's the plan now?"
Ian grinned, "Get in first."
Reluctantly, Kate slid into the passenger seat.
Thinking back to the events of the previous night, Kate felt as if she was in a dream.
She propped her hand on the car door and asked, "Did you do it? Were those people you killed?"
Though she already knew the answer, Kate couldn't help but ask.
Ian chuckled softly.
He took a moment to gaze at Kate's face.
Having just woken up, she hadn't had a chance to put on makeup -- she'd only applied a bit of skincare powder.
Even with a bare face, she still looked stunning.
Ian jokingly replied, "The news said it was a mysterious gunman."
"Mysterious gunman... and possibly Kate Beckinsale was involved?" Kate scoffed.
She glanced out the window, "So what happens next?"
Ian replied simply, "We wait."
Kate was stunned.
Wait for what?
Ian didn't answer; he remained quiet.
For just a moment, Kate felt like grabbing Ian by the collar and demanding to know what he was thinking.
But recalling the craziness of the previous night, she held back that thought.
While she may not have known Ian Carr well enough, she at least realized he was someone ruthless.
The wait wasn't long.
They soon spotted several police cars approaching in the distance.
So Ian opened the Porsche's convertible roof, turning it back into a convertible, which made Kate's beautiful brown hair shine even more.
Then, Ian let out a whistle, and the roar of the engine filled the air.
Time to unleash some excitement!
Then he slammed down the accelerator.
...
At that moment, two police officers stepped out of their car and saw Ian speeding away with Kate Beckinsale.
"It's Kate Beckinsale! Let's chase them!"
All the officers jumped into their cars, sirens blaring.
...
"Oh my god! What are you doing, Ian?" Kate yelled in panic.
Ian, focused on the road, said, "This is a car chase, it's a classic move! Kate Beckinsale on the run, police highway pursuit -- just like how O.J. Simpson did it back in the day... A gunfight would make it even more thrilling!"
Kate felt like she was losing her mind. "What? You didn't say anything about this! I don't want this!"
How did she let herself get involved with this lunatic?
Now she was going to be a fugitive.
As a beautiful woman, Kate had mostly encountered men who flattered and pursued her, giving her sweetness and understanding -- no matter how fake it might have been.
But she had never met anyone like Ian Carr before.
In his eyes, it seemed like there was only news.
If there was no news, he made it himself!
Shameless journalists made up fake news, but he just jumped right into the action?
She was just a pretty face turned into his news tool?
He even provoked the police into chasing him for a wild car chase?
He was a madman!
He was utterly insane!
Kate had once felt grateful to Ian for saving her, even fantasizing that she might fall for him.
But Ian's antics were seriously making her hair stand on end!
There was no way she could fall for him!
...
As the Porsche roared along, police sirens blaring behind them, Ian drove like it was just another day.
He opened up his camera, capturing all of it.
On the highway, excitement lit up Ian's eyes.
A sports car is a sports car; police cars couldn't catch up.
The red car moved through the traffic like a fish in water, weaving between cars as the police sped after them, attracting curious glances from bystanders.
His talent for handling vehicles was impressive, enabling him to operate the camera and seek better angles -- though he really wished Kate would help, she obviously wasn't in the mood for that.
...
Drivers along the roadside exclaimed, "Look, it's a police chase! I've finally seen a scene right out of a movie! Shoot already! Why aren't they shooting?"
Just as expected, those watching were more than happy to see some drama unfold!
As police cars blared, the Porsche sped on.
The surrounding crowd cheered, with some people leaning out of car windows, waving handkerchiefs and cheering madly.
This was America at its best!
...
Wind in his hair, Ian smiled at Kate and said, "See, people love this! This is real-life Fast and Furious! Okay, right now it's just fast, no fury!"
At this time, the first Fast and Furious movie was already being filmed but hadn't been released yet.
If only he knew Vin Diesel, who knows, maybe they could have collaborated on something.
Kate was nearly in shock.
She shouted, "I do not like this!"
Ian calmly whistled, "Relax, everything will be fine. The cops will apologize for their misunderstanding. Why sweat over something that won't have any real consequences? Remember what I told you -- don't say what you shouldn't, and I promise you'll be fine."
With a grin, he continued to speed along.
...
This highway chase seemed less thrilling without a shootout, and after twenty minutes, they finally saw a blockade ahead.
A fleet of police cars blocked the way, with over a dozen officers standing behind their cars, guns aimed at the Porsche.
A blonde police officer held a megaphone and shouted, "Pull over now!"
Kate screamed in fear, "Stop!"
With a chuckle, Ian slammed on the brakes, and the Porsche made a perfect drift, stopping right before the blockade.
Several officers rushed forward, guns drawn, shouting at Ian, "Hands up! Get out of the car!"
Kate frightenedly raised her hands.
Did he really think this wouldn't lead to consequences?
She shouted, "I'm innocent!"
Ian also raised his hands, quickly making it clear that he had no weapon.
"What's going on, officers?" he exclaimed with feigned surprise.
The blonde officer marched up and yanked Ian out of the car, roughly pressing him against it, demanding, "You're evading police! And you're asking this?"
Ian replied, pressing his body against the Porsche, "I don't know what you're talking about, officer. I was just driving normally on the highway."
The officer reprimanded him sharply, "Nonsense! Didn't you see the police chasing you?"
Ian chuckled, "I did see them, but they didn't display any signs saying they were after my car."
"Are you an idiot? You can't tell?"
Ian smirked, "As an American citizen, I have the freedom to be foolish."
Both the officer and Kate were taken aback by his words.
He could explain it like that?
The officer blinked in disbelief, "How do you explain going this fast then?"
Ian shrugged, "Just racing, do I get a ticket for that? I'll accept it!"
The officer was at a loss for words.
Kate Beckinsale burst into laughter.
The crisis was averted, and her initial panic began to fade.
Looking at Ian again, she started to find him genuinely interesting.
He had brought her an unprecedented thrill!
People's psychology was truly complex and ever-changing!
In the distance, several news vans approached, snapping photos of Ian and Kate.
Ian suddenly exploded in anger, "Get lost! This is my exclusive story!"
