Chapter 167: Letting Go

[Chapter 167: Letting Go]

The Los Angeles court shooting incident undoubtedly became yet another sensational news story this year. This incident was particularly connected to the downfall of the Bloods gang, as well as the five leading ladies in the Wife decapitation case, and to top it all off, there was a shooting in the courtroom... although it was a suicide, a gun was still fired.

Thanks to CBS and Carr Media Group's coverage, news of the incident spread rapidly. Ian's heroism truly amazed everyone. In a moment of crisis, he had stepped in front of the gun, protecting the five girls, and this act of bravery left countless women in awe.

...

"Ian Carr is a true hero! He always has been, deserving of the title of national hero!"

"He's brave, smart, and charming."

"Honestly, I lean towards believing that Ian Carr is the one who truly brought down the Bloods gang, given how his courage showed it all."

"I think so too, but those guys deserved it anyway."

"Exactly, there was no need for a retrial in this case."

"So now is the best conclusion. We can believe it was Ian who did it, and he's innocent!"

"I love you, Ian Carr! Come and take me!"

"Dude, you used to be in love with Butterfly!"

"There are many Butterflies, but there's only one Ian Carr."

"Isn't it because he's rich?"

"I don't need money to sleep with him."

"I could pay you!"

The comments section exploded with activity, and the sales for all media under Carr Media Group surged again. Other media outlets were envious of Ian's performance yet felt helpless, only able to throw in some sarcastic remarks.

...

The New York Times stated: "Ian Carr has done well in protecting his own women, but it would be better if he paid attention to others too."

By framing it as "protecting his own women," they attempted to undermine his heroic act.

ABC News commented: "Despite the eyewitness being dead, there still seem to be questions about the Bloods case."

Do you think I'd go to your place just to cause an explosion?

Fox News declared: "We should focus more on the livelihood issues."

Were they scared of Ian Carr? They didn't want to offend him, yet they didn't want to praise him either. Focus on livelihood? This is part of livelihood too!

Of course, CBS and Spark TV, Ian's own enterprises, praised him endlessly. Essentially, those who wanted to criticize had no outlet, so they resorted to bitterness, while insiders could gush.

Los Angeles, Trump Tower.

Carr Media Group.

Ian sat in his office reviewing reports when his secretary, Ida, walked in.

"Ms. Katherine is here," she announced.

Ian didn't look up and replied with a light hum.

Moments later, Katherine entered Ian's office.

She looked at Ian with a complex expression, and after a while, she finally asked, "How did you do it?"

Ian merely looked at the financial report. "I guess you've already checked out Eastbrook's family and confirmed they were not threatened or kidnapped before? You would have also checked Eastbrook's accounts and verified there are no transfer records from me."

Katherine walked over with purpose, her hands planted on the desk. "But I know you used some sort of trick to get him to yield!"

Ian smiled as he looked at her. He slowly rose, walked around the large desk, and stood beside Katherine.

Katherine was about to straighten up when Ian pressed his left hand on her left shoulder, pushing her back down onto the desk, while his right arm wrapped around her waist.

This action startled Katherine. Ian leaned over her back, and in a soft voice, said, "I guess you also went to find that guy, Courtman... I trust you'll give me the answer. Who made him do that?"

Katherine attempted to break free but found Ian's strength overwhelming.

He held her down, almost forcing her onto the desk, chuckling softly, "You're actually grateful, aren't you? After all, you wouldn't want your reputation destroyed because of this... but it's more than that..."

Katherine trembled slightly. After over a year of connection, Ian Carr had become a symbol of strength, mystery, and invincibility to her.

However, her internal pride made her unwilling to capitulate to Ian. Not every woman bowed to you!

Nevertheless, this incident had a significant impact on Katherine, leading her to breathe a sigh of relief upon seeing Ian manage to defuse the crisis with ease. Just as Ian had said, she had checked everything beforehand and confirmed that he hadn't used any coercive means. How did he manage it? He seemed so enigmatic, so powerful!

Katherine realized her heart had become filled with Ian's reflection. His confident smile, his mischievous smirk, and his invasive hands made her shudder from head to toe.

She repeatedly shook her head, "Let go!"

Yet, Ian paid her no mind. He fully pressed her against the desk, his hands reaching around from behind to grasp her curves.

"Why deny the truth anymore? You've already fallen for me, haven't you?"

"Stop! Ian Carr, don't be so confident!" Katherine strained to turn and push Ian away.

Ian merely kept her down on the desk, facing him. He lowered his head, inhaling her scent. A grin appeared on his face, and he suddenly slipped his hand into Katherine's skirt.

Katherine gasped softly.

She felt his devilish hand invading her. Ian stroked her body, a form he had seen numerous times, finally ready to touch and savor.

Indulging in Katherine, Ian's hands roamed free as he unbuttoned her skirt.

"No!" Katherine cried softly, "You can't do this!"

Ian whispered back, "Want to know me? Now is the best way to learn about my strengths..."

With a swift motion, he tore open Katherine's skirt while unbuttoning his own pants. He leaned closer.

Katherine looked at Ian in shock.

She had never anticipated finding herself in this situation when she came here.

She could have screamed, refused, yet Ian Carr seemed like a devil, playing into her mentality.

She had no strength to shout, nor the desire to. Her gaze fixed on Ian, "You're a bastard, Ian Carr."

Ian chuckled quietly, "Every girl who says that about me ends up in my bed."

As he said this, he lunged forward.

Katherine quickly covered her mouth with her hand.

She saw Ian Carr fix his cold gaze on her, devoid of any tenderness. This made her furious, "I'm not your plaything!"

With that, she raised her knee against Ian.

Ian pressed her long leg down and flipped her back onto the desk again, "You're my tool, Katherine Brown. Don't be foolish anymore. Do your job well for me, and I'll give you everything you want."

What did she want?

She didn't even know what she desired.

Katherine's head spun.

She had imagined this scenario many times, even fantasized about being with Ian Carr forever, yet never thought it would unfold like this.

There was no gentleness, no sweet words, just a direct and dominating approach.

But that was actually the most captivating way for her.

That was the kind of woman she was, and she thrived on it.

Thus, her resistance gradually faded, replaced by enjoyment and anticipation. She even found herself involuntarily cooperating with Ian.

This made her feel even more guilty.

How did I yield so easily...

Ian relentlessly ravaged Katherine, whispering as if from a distance, "Tell me, who was behind Courtman?"

Tears streamed down Katherine's cheeks as she found herself helpless and yielding, murmuring, "Ivor... Clemens."

"Is it him?" Ian asked, somewhat surprised.

He remembered, wasn't this the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist he had dealt with during negotiations with CBS?

Yes, the Pulitzer Awards were approaching, and last year Ivor Clemens had reported on a heavy news story that had a chance to earn a second Pulitzer. However, because of Ian Carr and Butterfly's sudden rise to fame, it meant he had no chance left.

But this guy was still impressive, having traced the connection between the Bloods gang's downfall and Ian.

Tsk, tsk, tsk! Did he put himself at odds with me over a Pulitzer?

His movements halted.

Katherine suddenly turned to face him, staring fiercely.

She raised her hands and tore off her police uniform completely.

Embracing Ian tightly, she growled, "Fuck me!"

In that moment, she finally shed all her reserve.

Her eyes burned with uncontrollable rage, yet her body remained incredibly honest in its response.

Inside the office, Katherine's sharp cries erupted, sounding like the wild calls of the savannah.

In the outer hall, a group of staff stared at each other in disbelief.

It was Ida, the female secretary, who remained the most sensible.

She walked by with a folder, her expression serious as she scolded, "Keep working; this doesn't concern you."
