CHAPTER 100

"Sir, another accidental explosion has just been reported in a building in the suburbs of New York."

While Nick Fury was contemplating Asgard, Agent Hill knocked on the door and handed him a stack of papers.

As he flipped through the report, Nick Fury frowned and said, "Remember, this is the thirteenth incident that has occurred recently. Do you have any clues?"

"Not yet. We haven't found any traces of combustibles at the scene. Based on our observations, this incident seems more like an explosion or spontaneous combustion originating from within the human body!" Hill responded.

"Then contact the X-Men and see if they have any results."

Nick Fury rubbed his forehead in frustration and handed the collection of clues to the Mutants.

One thing was clear: although the abilities of the Mutants were all sorts of strange, and some could even be considered useless, there were others that were quite practical. In many cases, Mutants could accomplish things that ordinary people could not.

"By the way, has Dr. Erik made any progress?"

Nick Fury thought about the Tesseract. It was related to Asgard's artifact, and he was certain the Asgardians were coming!

Whether a year was long or short, he didn't believe that the group of alien gods would forget about Earth. Perhaps the next time they came, in addition to demanding an explanation, they might also come to reclaim the Tesseract.

Nick Fury wasn't sure if they knew that the Tesseract was in their possession, but just in case, he had to be prepared, accelerate the progress of the experiment, and harness as much power from the Tesseract as possible to fight against the gods!

"Dr. Erik is currently debugging it, and it will take some time." Hill replied, clearly prepared.

"Get him to hurry!" Nick Fury urged.

At that moment, Phil Coulson rushed in, looking urgent and slightly flustered.

"What's going on, Phil Coulson? Watch your image! You're a high-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D agent!" Nick Fury snapped.

Phil Coulson let out a sigh of relief and said helplessly, "I think so too, but... we've just received news from the God of Magic, Aaron!"

"What!!"

Nick Fury's face tightened. Why such a coincidence?

"Where are they?"

"They're on a flight to Washington. There are three women with him: one is the former X-Men Jean Grey, the other is Valkyrie Sif, who came with the three warriors of Asgard last time, and the last one—we have no intelligence to confirm her identity."

Phil Coulson handed over a profile, showing four individuals in the photos. Three of them were dressed in a way that was incompatible with the rest of the crowd, but each had a very unique temperament.

"Where was this photo taken?"

"They suddenly appeared at a building in New York before heading to the airport."

"Flying? Do they have ID?" Nick Fury asked.

"No, but they have some special ways to make our people obey them," Phil Coulson shrugged.

Nick Fury knew that by "special ways," he meant telepathy and other such abilities. For ordinary people, there was no solution!

Thinking about the arrival of Aaron and his group, he quickly asked, "How much time do we have to prepare?"

"At least half an hour, but no more than two hours!" Phil Coulson estimated.

After all, no one knew exactly what method they would use to get to Washington once they arrived.

Just like when they appeared, no one could have imagined that the gods would travel so openly.

Presumably, they wanted to experience mortal life?

Nick Fury realized they didn't think the God of Magic couldn't just teleport directly.

It was most likely intentional! The point was to let everyone know that the gods of Asgard were coming! To make S.H.I.E.L.D, and even the higher-ups, prepare in advance.

Thinking of this, Nick Fury's face darkened. He never expected to be treated this way.

But he didn't move.

"Phil Coulson, go gather the Avengers and bring together all the materials we've prepared over the last year. We need to show them our sincerity."

Phil Coulson nodded and left.

"Hill, you contact the Mutants and tell them to suspend their other tasks and come here as quickly as possible. Urge Dr. Erik to speed up the tests. We might not have much time!"

"Yes, sir!" Hill said, and left as well.

After they left, Nick Fury paced back and forth, his expression unsteady. A sense of urgency and pressure was building within him.

It felt as though he was waiting for fate to decide.

He didn't know if this offering would satisfy them, but he knew he had no choice but to try his best to stabilize the situation with sincerity.

Not to mention the Asgardians, Aaron—the God of Magic—was enough to overthrow S.H.I.E.L.D and even the United States!

At present, it was still unclear how strong Aaron truly was. The unknown was terrifying!

Gods weren't the problem—what was terrifying was the unknown!

For the God of Magic, they knew nothing about him!

At a secret base in the suburbs of New York:

This was the NASA Space Radiation Center, also known as the S.H.I.E.L.D Accelerator Test Center, or the Pegasus Plan Headquarters—full name: Potential Energy Joint Plan.

The Tesseract was right there.

The person in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D overseeing the energy project immediately entered the base after being notified by headquarters and asked Dr. Erik to accelerate the Tesseract energy test.

Upon receiving the notice, Dr. Erik immediately objected, "Now is not the time! Although the facilities have been built, I still need more time to make adjustments."

"There's no time! The Asgardians are coming! You'd better start the experiment now. I'll apply to NASA for an expedited reissue of the test approval. Your task is to conduct the test, understand?" the project leader snapped.

He didn't listen to Dr. Erik's objections.

He was responsible to S.H.I.E.L.D, and all the higher-ups were focused on the Asgardian emissary. They were worried and urgently needed positive news to relieve the pressure.

As soon as the Tesseract energy test was successful, they could use the energy to upgrade existing equipment, giving their military the capability to fight in space.

That would give them confidence to face an alien invasion and even resist the gods.

Seeing this, Dr. Erik had no choice but to turn around and begin debugging the system.

While the experiment was underway, a figure emerged from another room.

It was Loki!

"The Asgardians have come to Earth? Who could it be? My big brother, or my temporary ally?"

"Since Bifrost is broken, it must be Aaron, right?"

Loki thought back to his battle with Thor and the destruction of Bifrost.

Without the Space Gem, they could hardly fix it.

It could only be Aaron, who stayed on Earth and never returned.

This piqued Loki's interest.

He was curious about the current situation in Asgard.

As for the Space Gem...

Loki looked at Dr. Erik's back and smiled meaningfully.

"Test it! Prepare to meet your king!"

With a soft murmur, Loki left the room through the layers of buildings.

He wasn't physical now, but used astral projection to send his soul to Earth.

He had been coming to Earth through secret passages ever since Bifrost was destroyed.

When Nick Fury approached Dr. Erik, Loki had used psychic magic to control Erik's mind, making him agree to study the Space Gems for S.H.I.E.L.D.

For this, he had also given Erik psychological hints to prepare for his eventual arrival.

Since then, Loki had visited Earth periodically to monitor progress.

Now, everything was going smoothly.

He had even found new allies...

The time was almost right!

But before that, he needed to speak with some old friends.

Somewhere on a flight from New York to Washington:

Aaron was chatting quietly with Jean and the others.

Noticing the surveillance from the plane's cameras, Aaron just smiled.

Jean frowned slightly, clearly bothered by the feeling.

"Don't do it. We'll be there soon," Aaron comforted her, and Dark Phoenix reluctantly lowered her hand.

If Aaron had hesitated even a second longer, the cameras on the entire plane would have been disassembled instantly!

Aaron didn't care about the surveillance.

As Nick Fury had guessed, Aaron walked down the street just to make sure everyone knew he was coming!

Before he arrived, it was best to prepare and produce satisfactory results.

He didn't want to show up at 5 only to wait for the others.

By the way, he had also taken Sif and Amora to experience Midgard's development.

Although Sif and Amora had two words to describe it: behind!
