The Pressure Rises

The Frustration Builds

The gym buzzed with energy as the teams returned to their benches for the timeout. Misaki High's players huddled together, their breathing heavy, sweat dripping onto the floor.

Renji wiped his forehead, his legs feeling like lead.

They had lost the first set.

And worse—they had lost control.

Asuka's voice cut through the tense silence. "They're using you as a weakness, forcing you to move too much."

Renji clenched his jaw. He knew she was right.

Yuuto's fists tightened at his sides. "Damn it. If they keep this up, they'll break our defense completely."

Coach Fujimoto stood with his arms crossed, watching Renji carefully. "Can you keep up?"

Renji nodded without hesitation.

But inside?

He wasn't sure.

"I can't keep chasing every ball like this…"

But if he stopped, they'd fall apart even faster.

Second Set: Hoshin Doubles Down

The whistle blew. The second set began.

And just like before—Hoshin dictated the pace.

Shun Takagi moved like a conductor, orchestrating every play with precision. His sets weren't just about power or deception—they controlled space.

Every spike forced Renji into motion.

Every feint pulled him further out of position.

His legs screamed, exhaustion setting in.

His reactions slowed.

And then—

A critical mistake.

A sharp cut spike headed toward the sideline.

Renji saw it coming. But—was it going out?

Straight or cut?

He hesitated.

Chose wrong.

The ball landed inside.

The referee's whistle echoed through the gym.

Point for Hoshin.

Misaki High's players tensed. Yuuto cursed under his breath.

Renji's stomach twisted.

"They're breaking me down—one mistake at a time."

Yuuto Confronts Renji

During a quick break, as the teams gathered near the net, Yuuto suddenly grabbed Renji's jersey.

His grip was tight. Frustrated.

"What the hell is wrong with you?"

Renji blinked, startled. "I'm trying—"

Yuuto's eyes burned. "You're playing it safe! That's not how defense works!"

His voice was sharp, cutting through the noise of the crowd.

Renji opened his mouth to argue, but Yuuto wasn't finished.

"If you hesitate, if you doubt yourself—we lose!"

The words stung.

Because Yuuto wasn't wrong.

Renji exhaled, forcing himself to think.

He turned his gaze toward Hoshin's side of the court—toward Shun Takagi, who remained as calm as ever, directing his team with cold precision.

Hoshin had been controlling every step of this match.

But what if…

"What if I turned it against them?"

A new thought sparked in Renji's mind.

Maybe chasing after the ball wasn't the answer.

Maybe he had to make them chase him instead.
